Nice perspective in those shots! What is that in the second shot?

It's a light display in a creek tunnel. More info here: https://texasarchitects.org/v/articl...Creek-Show/e0/

You'll like the 70-200. I had the non-IS and it was an amazing lens for being so cheap. (Although mine was free because my brother gave it to me).

I got the lens Saturday and used it a little bit on my 7D, holy cow! By far the best lens I've ever used. I was blown away by the IS on that thing. My other lenses with IS are nothing like this one. And its razor sharp at f4.

I had the non-IS version and I shot this a few years ago when I was starting to learn.

You should be...

HKYStormFront 11-28-2014 08:55 PM

What was your setup? Looks like you had one main front light with a softbox, and a catch light behind above right of frame?

LunaZ 11-29-2014 07:42 AM

One big octabox as my main light just left of center. A piece of foamboard on a light stand as a fill reflector to the subject's right. A hairlight with a 20° grid to the right rear. A rear light on the backdrop.

I had some trouble with the hairlight positioning. I think I might have needed to put it actually behind my subject. I wanted a little more of a rim light effect. Not to the point of looking like a glamour shot, but just a tiny bit more. In some shots, I had a really nasty flare because the light was actually pointing at my lens.

Wow nice shot sir! Great natural feeling light!

Sometimes when I do the hair light in a tight space, I try and use a light on a boom so I can get it right behind the subject, yet up above the frame, and feathered if need be to avoid flare. It makes for a more cluttered work area, but it helps.

Took this whilst perusing a Grandfather Mountain Winery in NC this past week.
