Oh right... can't believe I forgot to mention reflectors!
A collapsible reflector goes with me most places.
A piece of foam board works well as a cheap, quick reflector if portability is not an issue.

For the editorial shoot we worked on yesterday, we had these 4x8' crinkly foil coated insulating wall boards set up as reflectors and flags in one.

I <3 you guys. lol. Thanks!

I've always known lighting was never my forte because I never had a chance to work on it. Now I think I can, so time to get some practice in and see what I can do.

Despite cooling temps the last two weeks, this scene says there's still hope for summer in Central PA:

I know what you are trying to do but without any highlights it looks like a dark underexposed picture of a car at night...

That shot would look badass taken from further away and stitched wide!

i see what you were going for, though! and totally see why you might have done the angle, since it's the side of the road. still, just my thoughts.

so when you're in A, you're usually +0.3 EV?

Actually the shot itself is dead on, I verified it in photoshop with the grid lines. It's the line on the road that's throwing the whole perspective off. I wanted to get off of it but I wasn't able to since the road was pretty busy. Maybe I can just photoshop it out lol. Thanks for the advice!

haha, it was concrete and I was nowhere near the lightening. It was roughly 5 or 6 miles away :)

The cop basically pulls up and gets out of the car. He asks what I'm doing out here in the middle of the night. I answer "I'm taking nighttime pictures." He wants to know what of. I tell him I'm taking pics of the sky and the lightening. He shakes his head and mutters something about "fukking dumbarse" then ignores me and walks to the back of my car. TRIES TO OPEN THE HATCH. I'm like wtf are you doing? You can't search my car, I haven't done anything wrong. He calls my plate in to dispatch and then starts lecturing me "you can't be out here in the middle of the night, it's not allowed". I'm like ok, if nobody's allowed to be on the bridge them why did the county just spend thousands of dollars building the sidewalk I'm standing on? He's like "you could get hit by a drunk driver" to which I reply that that should by my concern, not really his. He looks at me and says get the fukk out before I arrest you. Right then my camera died, so I told him the only reason I was leaving was that my camera had just died, and that he might want to go read the law about pedestrian access to public bridges lol. He followed me all the way home till I pulled in my driveway then turned around and left. Fun night!

What lens and camera setup did you use on this, Luna? Lots of nice detail there.

My attempt was shot with a Canon 60D with the 18-200mm kit lens at 60mm zoom and f32. There's not nearly the detail as Luna's shot.

I'm looking for a quality macro lens. I saw a Tamron 60mm 1:1 f2 lens the other day that put the Canon 1:4 f2.8 to shame. And it cost 1/2 as much. I may have to do it. I love shooting pics of little things like bugs and flowers.
