Good deal.

Auto rear diffs = not compatible with manual trans?

GTRwrench 04-11-2011 06:02 PM

I'm sure it would fit but the gear ratio in the final drive on the stick is 3.692:1

KingZee 04-11-2011 06:29 PM

I'd pick this up in a heart beat if it was for a manual...great deal, glws

aadosx 04-11-2011 09:19 PM

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if the output shafts for the autos are the same as for the MTs? If so, someone could buy this and swap the VLSD unit itself and an output shaft into their base MT and it would still be a good deal if they did the labor themselves.

chuckd05 04-11-2011 11:24 PM

this would be great for a high hp FI manual Z.... the lower final drive would help with traction and top end power... a 500 hp ish Z with these gears would prob hit 180-190

manuals would drop their gear ratio significantly lower... not sure how much it would effect the car because I dont think anyone has done is NA, but I would imagine you would take a hit in performance..

i was pretty excited until i seen it was for the auto... what if i did the 4.08 gearing? my only question is, will is go right in no problems or other modifications...

This is why I'm asking about the output shafts. I'm not sure if the auto axles are the same bolt pattern. I am fairly certain that the input shaft for the unit it different for the autos though, so you would have to swap that out for sure. The input shaft is the same for open diffs and VLSD pumpkins though so you could easily swap it from your open diff if you wanted to.

someone that's FI'd and MT should grab this.

v8zracer260z 04-12-2011 10:42 PM

I am assuming it is from a touring w/sport package? Also post a picture as per forum rules please. If above is met, count me in for the diff.

destinyZ 04-13-2011 12:51 AM

not compatible with MT

I talked to a nissan tech and right as they were about to tell me y...i got cut off but it is not compatible....i have to wait :(

GTRwrench 04-13-2011 07:41 AM

I will try and get some pics up tonight. Can also provide some info about the companion flange and axle flanges. Thanks.

v8zracer260z 04-13-2011 08:28 AM

Thanks waiting for them.

GTRwrench 04-13-2011 08:13 PM

Pics are up in an album under GTRwrench. Side flanges the same between stick and auto 10/08-10/09. This came out of an 09. Companion flange the same for a bigger spread (datewise). Companion flange is 3-3/4" across hole to opposing hole. Side flanges are 4-1/2" across hole to opposing hole. 7-1/16" bushing top bushing on mounts. It weighs 87 lbs. That's all I can give you unless you have specific measurements you need off the unit. Thanks.

I want this I'm just trying to make sure it is the sport LSD diff for a 7AT. Are there any other numbers or tags other than the decal shown?

GTRwrench 04-14-2011 08:10 PM

Yep. Nissan number is 38301-EH33C. I guarantee it's a viscous unit for two reasons. 1. I'm the one who replaced it and 2. I know why it was replaced.....The owner of the 370 complained about some "grabbyness" on slow turns and parking (you guys who have viscous units will know what I mean). He would not accept that it is a normal condition. We replaced it.Guess what. The new one did the same thing so now he thought the problem was in the front end. Growing weary we put him in another 09 sport pack 370 with 200 miles on it and by golly it did the same thing. So, the guy is ok with it now. And now you now the rest of the story.......

Will be in out of town but should be able to check e-mail in hotel lobby. Thanks.

lazer_Z 04-18-2011 07:56 AM

the diff itself is different for the 7AT and 6MT. the rear end is the same outer casing, but the flange that bolts to your driveshaft is different. If you wanted to swap those it can be done and I have seen it done before. But you would loose some gear, and as far as putting 4.08's in this rear end, you would NOT be able to put the frontier gears in it. the ring gears are different sizes for 6MT and 7AT (hence why the LSD is completely different)

GTRwrench 06-13-2011 08:58 PM

The diff has been sold. Thanks everyone.
