If you weren't looking to pay more than $500+ for a fair-good condition hebi babi then I would probably get Bulletproof's remake.
The bulletproof one is made by a different company than Tommy Kaira and has noticeable aesthetic differences. I used my original Hebi Babi daily until I saw those remakes come out and when people started posting real pics of features, I uninstalled mine. Cleaned and Polished it by hand. Microfiber towel wrapped it, bubble wrapped it and put it away as a collector's item. I've never worn any rings, watches or anything on my right hand while driving with the knob. For being used daily it is pristine in some opinions. I've had 3 people offer me $500 for it and I have laughed at them. When they were just rare, TK was shut down and not coming back and not remade yet, they were about $400-$450 for an original brand new TK Hebi babi if you were able to find one brand new. With the remakes made now and the differences, it boosts the value of the originals so much... one of the biggest collectors items for the Z34 that is still noticed. I wouldn't let mine go for any less than $700 Bought the Amsue R1 titan for my daily wear and tear. |
I have one from the Rowen run they recently did. Never installed it, what you think those are worth birdman?
|
Lol, the one posted is a original TK not a remake and is excellent condition. Maybe I should resend my offer lol!

Besides being rare, what's the difference between an original and a remake? Why would I want to spend $700 on a shift knob? I've been searching for pictures showing the differences.

reminds me of the "top secret" BS someone was marketing.

That is the main difference. The hebi babi was one of the last and most sought after shift knobs when Tommy Kaira shut down and it made them a very valuable discontinued item. No supply being made, big demand?.. makes the sell price increase. When the remakes came out from Rowen AKA and had differences from the still greatly demanded original Tommy Kaira knob, it made it a collectors item. It established the difference between Authentic and Replica Versions. In the end it all depends on the seller, the buyer and what has happened recently behind the company that made the part. People now will try to sell the original TK at a really low price to be somewhere close to the remake's price. Better chance of making a sale and taking $300-$350 now rather than $550 later down the line if the buyer comes a long. The more and more Rowen Tk's that are produced and purchased will bring more value to the Original's though. If someone is a collector and/or wants the part for whatever reason, they will pay the price for the collector's authentic piece of JDM history. |
Those are some expensive paperweights. I'm not a fan of weighted knobs, they detract from the mechanical feel of our gearbox imho, but to each his own. The turtle looks nice though :ugh2:

Also, it looks like there's an "original" currently for sale on this forum for $300, not sure if you saw that one.
