They do fail and Porsche had a lawsuit against them and lost. I went through Rennlist and Planet 9 forums to do lots of checks. For peace of mind the retrofit bearing does not seem to cost too much either.

Oh that's good. As long as you were aware of the issues and know to avoid them. I didn't think they had fixed it by 07 but I did not look very heavily into the 997 so my information is spotty.

I actually like the droopy eyes of the 996 turbo and because of the dislike for them, they are a fantastic deal.

Yes lots of hate for the scrambled egg lights from what I saw.
So yes there are great deals on 996 turbos now. Key is finding one
with service history and not too molested with crappy mods.

A late model 996TT was in the short list when I bought my Z. I was just worried that my clients would think I was overcharging them if I showed up in a shiny 911 turbo. :rofl2:

Plus mods cost a fortune and I don't have the self control not to modify a car.

You need a daily driver.

Here's mine. Cost me $6k. (before mods)

I actually looked at buying one of those a few months back as a daily.

Mine is a 6MT. As I like to say, they are rarer than Lamborghini Gallardos. Only 2,600 were MTs were made and only for 2003.

The 5AT has transmission issues.

Which is why I didn't buy it.

Hopefully I run into you in the wild someday. I've always been curious how a boosted Z hangs with one of those.

Comptech used to make great blower kits for those things.
