A Glimpse Of A Future Rotary-Powered Mazda RX-9

DEpointfive0 09-29-2014 04:26 PM

No desire for a rotary, lol

Chuck33079 09-29-2014 04:29 PM

In the time it took to read that article, the motor lunched its apex seals. :rofl2:

Looks amazing. Better than a Z.

watson853 09-29-2014 05:05 PM

To bad this is just what an artist wishes Mazda would make.

Ugly

sunkist350z 09-29-2014 05:24 PM

wow yes please Mazda build it! As a former FD3S owner one of the best cars owned and most unreliable, I would buy one in a heartbeat, I miss the RX :(

You do know this is the 370Z General Discussion Section right?

Please try to keep other cars discussions in the other cars section.

Thanks.

Moved to the correct section!

Better than almost anything...gorgeous:iagree:

wanker 09-29-2014 06:03 PM

Great looking car. Will never happen. The RX line, while iconic, was an economic loser for Mazda.

janglez 09-29-2014 06:23 PM

no thank you... had a rx8... no power and nothing but engine trouble... complete engine replacement at 18 months/20,000 miles... drove it for another 20,000 miles and traded it when it started showing the same trouble signs... great looking car but that's it

Pie 09-29-2014 06:27 PM

Mazda/10

Cell 09-29-2014 06:31 PM

Looks great. I would wait for someone to blow up the motor so I can buy the shell and drop a nice LSx.

RonRizz 09-29-2014 07:01 PM

amazing what a pencil can do in the 1/4 mile

heehee The RX-7 rotaries weren't the most reliable engines in the world, were they? Maybe some of the new high-tech materials will do better.

nomodsjk 09-29-2014 07:03 PM

I'll belive it when I see it. To all those band wagoners jumping ship....traders!

Arrvaxx 09-29-2014 07:27 PM

Like the front but the rest looks like it is trying too hard.

I second this motion

Tadpole 09-29-2014 08:20 PM

I had fun with my 82 RX7 until I had to get the carb rebuilt and shortly thereafter blowing the apex seals. Traded it for a nissan frontier and been a nissan fan since. The wankel is a powerful engine but they don't last very long.

sunkist350z 09-29-2014 09:00 PM

With all the time Mazda has had over the years, lets hope they figure out the reliability issues and gas consumption the 13B engine had with this new 16X rotary.

P's_Z 09-29-2014 09:02 PM

I had an '87 rx-7... A blast to drive, obviously when it was running and not in the shop getting the engine or transmission replaced :shakes head:

^ True story ^

Lots of people are getting at the reliability of the Rx. It was not too reliable and needed a quart of oil everytime I filled up my tank. But the RX 7 was the most balanced FR platform I've ever driven. It wasn't nose heavy, it cornered like a star. It was pretty damn fast for only 255hp. It was a sick car.

Not to mention it was the most exotic looking of all affordable sports cars back then. All that car needs are design & metal quality updates, it doesnt even need a full redesign and it's 21 years old in design. IMHO It's the most timeless affordable sports car in recent history.

Zoren 370 09-30-2014 03:15 PM

By the time this Sh*t goes to production line I would possibly afford to buy a used GTR or a ZO6 C7.

With that I'am a happy camper!

kenchan 09-30-2014 04:06 PM

looking at how fugly their mx5 turned out in production form, i dont think the concept rendering(?) actual proto(?) is even close to wat it might really look like at the end.

That's funny, I think this rendering looks fugly while the new Miata came out awesome!

sunkist350z 09-30-2014 05:52 PM

:iagree: and reliability goes down the drain when people slap on huge single turbos without a tune. My FD dynoed 480rwhp with a tune at 20lbs of boost on a hks t51 single turbo.
Car had over 100k miles when I sold it.

and the mpg was horrific... i averaged a whopping 14.2 mpg over the 4 years i owned my rx8... that's fine if you're sitting on 500 hp but ridiculous for just over 200 hp

Mazda Puts RX Sports Car on Hold Will Focus on Mainstream Models

I guess add another 10 or so years before they start this project again.

Well that was quick. Just as well anyway. Like all Mazda's itll need another 50 to 70HP to put it where it should have been from the beginning.

3rd genRx7 turbo vs Rx8 = No comparison. I woulda never bought an Rx8.

Anyway, Mazda sold us out AGAIN!
