Caddy in denial? You decide.

Cadillac Chief Says Brand Won't Go Back to Cut-Rate Pricing

Cadillac has come a long way with the ATS. It drives like a charm. Fit & finish rivals Germans. I can honestly say it outperformed the 2013 and under bimmers. But...
Cadillac didn't design the ATS/CTS to look like it can compete in looks with potential redesigns coming for 2014 2015 & 2016. The effects are showing. The Germans and Lexus sales are up, Cadillac sales are down nearly 5%. Dealers and consumers are asking Cadillac to be more price competitive with discounts or incentives.
Cadillac feels their cars are quality built and are worth the price.
Imo... Cadillac should have spent more money on external design. The CTS look is already dated compared to a Mercedes-Benz C class or 3 series.
GM, don't repeat the mistakes of the 70's or you'll be back in the 80's & 90's. Starting to feel like American car dominance is near coming to a screeching hault???

I'm not a fan of the Caddy design but the cars are terrific. My wife is a long-time Cadillac driver.

An interestingly side note is that the BK of GM allowed Cadillac to shine. Cadillac's management was finally allowed to develop the cars they wanted -- more sporty performance oriented cars to compete with BMW and Mercedes -- rather than the dated luxury boats your Grandmother drove.

the new caddy i saw today not sure which model but the bigger one already had burnt out LED tail on the right side, and a few burnt out smaller led's on the center strip.

:shakes head:

no thanks to poor quality.

The CTS v is amazing performance wise but I say WTF to the looks. The rear end in particular. Its like they ran out of time with the design and just threw something together at the last minute. On the other hand it performs just as good if not better than the amg or M series for 40k less so they definitely get a check in the win column for that

Hotrodz 09-19-2014 03:32 PM

Yup the CTS V is an great value for the money if you are looking for a vehicle in this class. Because Cadillac's depreciate so much you can get a good use one for less than the comparable ZL1 Camaro and it is better equipped. I agree with other on the looks of the tail end, but a lot of folks complain about the looks of the GTR that's 40K more!

i like the shape of the cts actually. wat turns me off is the inability to tell whether it's a hit or a miss car...until after taking ownership. perhaps best to buy used at carmax and return it within the 7day grace period or some program they have.

I really like the ATS. If the 2.0 performance was selling at $45,000 loaded instead of $53,000. It would be selling like hot cakes. 328i's wouldn't come off the lot.

SUB-TOPIC

GM rather spend money moving to NYC rather than strengthening the actual product line further? These are the things that get me nervous about GM.
A million recalls but they're spending money on a move. Classic GM fuccup.

Cadillac to Move HQ to NYC, Become Stand-alone Business Unit | Car and Driver Blog

I think Detroit has gotten so bad to the point where Cadillac is far more concerned with remaking its image to appear as though it belongs right alongside BMW and Audi. Right now, as it sits, the total package of the brand doesn't have the luxury/premium feel that BMW and Audi do. They need something to up the mystique.

DeNysschen thinks that location of the HQ and a revamped pricing strategy will do it. I agree to an extent, but I think other pieces to the puzzle should be in place before those two things do, the biggest of which being Quality Control and product portfolio. The brand is struggling with its identity right now.

:iagree:

Also, CADILLAC wants to price their cars equal to BMW because of their newfound comparable quality. The way I see it is, we pay s $7,500 premium on German imports just because of the shipping costs.

So why should we pay an equal price for comparable quality on a domestic product?

If a loaded BMW 328i M sport is $52,000
An ATS 2.0 performance should be $44,500. Not $52k as well.

I can only slightly disagree with the premium feel issue. I think BMW has become lax in interior quality/design. Caddys only issue is the my link or whatever is called in caddy. And not a fan of full electonic steering. But in 2013. The ATS was superior to the 2013 BMW imho. 2014, seems like bimmer responded to ATS well, but I think caddy will keep responding. But I still agree that caddy needs to focus on other angles of the biz n everything else you wrote.
