Drove the the 2010 Mustang GT

And all I can say is, I'm glad I don't own one.

Exterior
Don't get me wrong, when my friend showed up under my building to surprise me with it, I was pretty amazed. I love how its been refined with more attention paid to detail. It looks much meaner now. The vents at the bottom of the bumper give it such an aggressive stance too! Even the OEM wheels look so much better than the 12" looking ones on the previous gen Stang!

Interior
Why does it have to fail so bad? As good as I felt about the exterior the moment I stepped foot into the car I was thinking, did I just get into a different car? Why does it have to seem like someone just rushed his way through designing the interior? The buttons feel so cheap and just don't flow. No Navigation or even just a display screen (not sure if American Spec is different). I did spot a back up camera on his trunk but check out where that displays, on the damn rear view mirror in a 1" screen! Seems like they forgot about the dashboard too, looks no different from the previous gen Stangs (no wait a second, you can actually change the gauge/background colors now)! The black leather seats are nice though, stitched up in white, looked pretty decent I have to say. They also threw a back seat in there, probably only because they didn't know what else to put there. Not so sure "fitting human beings" was part of the design criteria of that back seat though.

Impressions behind the steering wheel
Even though still at 250 miles, my friend gave me green light to floor that thing. Traffic signal went green and so did the stang, because that was a money launch right there! Very nice kick back into the seat off the line making my G37 feel so sluggish. It didn't feel that much faster than the G from a roll though. And that V8 growl, oh my! Who needs porn when you have such a deep tone like that, I just couldn't get over it. Even with the slightest throttle feathering it keeps reminding you, you're in one beasty V8. I pulled over into the first bus stand because I had to change my pants.

Handling
I think this is where they decided to minimize cost. As sporty as it sounded and looked (from the outside at least), it handled like my mom's minivan. The body roll is insane; took a right off the main road a little too fast and that thing felt like a roller coaster ride! A little more throttle and I definitely would've been all over the place. Another thing I hated was it's lack of road feel. It just doesn't feel like a sports car, it feels like a normal car that happens to be fast that's all.

Conclusion
I really loved the car, I just know for a fact that I'd never buy it. Driving that stang made me appreciate the G even more and realize how much of an amazing sports car it is!

It's junk, yet they will still sell an s-load of them.

Edit: Okay okay, maybe that wasn't a fair review by me. The change is too little, and it's underpowered versus it's competitors.

Does it have the track pack? The track pack GT has a more aggressive suspension and stickier tires... .95g and 70mph slalom. A lot stiffer than the standard GT.

wait till next yr. 400hp GT
i really like gt500s, but those camaros are really growing on me.

I'm not fully aware of their packages to be honest but what I drove sure didn't seem to be even close to having an aggressive suspension. Even though I was told it was fully loaded ?!

There are so many options it's not even funny. I don't think the track pack cars use those wheels. If it felt really soft then it probably wasn't so equipped.

Do you know that you can order one with a factory installed blower? Two options... I think 450 and 550 hp.

Anyways, if I were to buy one it'd definitely be the track pack car... You get shocks, springs, bigger sways, and sticky tires... it's a night and day difference from the standard versions.

You also have a couple gear options as well.

The MT guys were raving over the track pack GT.

"Angus MacKenzie: The best steering in an American car. Ever. Direct, linear, good feel. Astounding turn-in response -- helped in no small way by the PZero tires. Superb pedal placement -- brake and clutch and gas pedals nicely aligned; heel-and-toe downshifts a cinch. Five-speed manual lighter, crisper shift than Tremec 6060 in the other two. Downside is there's a giant hole between fourth and and fifth. V-8 is smooth, revs nicely, pulls hard. Performance helped by weight advantage over other two; helps this 315-hp car punch above its weight.

Mustang feels very connected to the road -- telegraphs what's going on where the rubber meets the road -- at both ends. Handles better than any car with a live rear axle has a right to, though if the road surface is gnarly, you'll be chasing the rear end all the time, and therefore will be ultimately slower point to point than the Camaro. This is more like a sports car than a ponycar, and on a smooth road or track, you feel you can do almost anything in it."

"Indeed, the Mustang GT left all of us astounded at what magic Ford's engineers have achieved with this seemingly antiquated architecture. "That GT turns in like a race car," was our communal opinion after our mountain romps. Only when the road surface deteriorates does the Mustang GT begin to lose its poise. But, man, the incredible bite of the front end is the stuff test drivers write poetry about. Astonishing."

Wow seems like I missed out on all the fun then! Yeah I love how the car is so mod friendly, it just needs a little more final touching

I went to fords website, they have nothing about a track pack or factory superchargers. only thing similar is the gt500 which would no longer make it a GT. I think even the gt500 still has the shitty '79 pinto rear axle. The mustang needs the rumored power increase for '11 to stay competative with the camaro and taurus

m4a1mustang 09-04-2009 10:57 PM

Track Pack is only available on GT Premium and the FRPP superchargers are offered through the dealerships.

I'm sure the blown are a whole different world!

TARDCORE 09-07-2009 12:43 AM

I drove one I thought it felt much faster than the G37 but yours is quite modded. I also tohught it handled somewhat decent although when i test drove the mustang the salemans let me kinda beat on it and when I test drove the G the saleman was scared when I shifted 1st-3rd. They are the classic American muscle car and while I can't stand them, they are a pretty good buy for the money with a HUGE aftermarket... market lol

LiquidZ 09-08-2009 05:39 PM

I'm going to stay out of this one haha.

kdo2milger 09-08-2009 05:48 PM
