Jay Leno drives Nismo IDX

You Tube Vid in article...

Jay Leno checks out Nissan IDx Nismo, spiritual successor to Datsun 510 - Autoblog

Notice on the cam while Jay is driving that the IDX has virtually no rear blind spots from the side windows. I think these cars are awesome and can't wait to see them on the road. :driving: I just might DD one?

Z_ealot 03-11-2014 09:26 PM

with how much nissan is pushing the idx nismo concept makes me think thats the direction they are heading with the design rather than the idx freeflow

It's growing on me.. Don't think I'd ever want to own one but I will be happy it exists.

bacalhau16 03-11-2014 11:42 PM

This car has been really growing on me too. Cool car

critical 03-11-2014 11:44 PM

I'd consider trading in the Z for this. I picture it being like an FRS but not sucky.

zmanelite 03-11-2014 11:50 PM

I want this , prolly get one for the wife when it comes out

axmea? 03-11-2014 11:58 PM

He is a Nissan fan. Loves the history of the z.

Akmcmahon 03-12-2014 12:25 AM

Love it! Would consider for a DD. My first car was a 1970 Datsun 210. I loved that car.

DEpointfive0 03-12-2014 12:43 AM

Holy Christ it's so ugly... I see the 510, but worse...

I've seen almost every episode of Jay Leno's Garage... But I don't think I'll be finishing this one

The regular one, LOOOOOL, maybe worse. Or Nissan is retarded and showcases their cars in shít colors on purpose.

The guy in the video didn't seem like a car guy, an artist, yeah, maybe, but not a car guy.

i thought that him being a designer was a good change up-got a different perspective. he must work with Randy if he works for nissan design in SD.

Either way, it ended like shít, loool!

Footloose301 03-12-2014 05:21 AM

I'm sure the edition that makes it to production will look better. This concept just doesn't look finished to me.

thats what alot of people said about the 370Z when it debuted and even to this day, but once they actually see it in person they change their opinion very quickly. to me, i dont look at the idx as a car that's meant to be beautiful, but rather a car that's meant to have character, and if they make the right choices with the drivetrain i can see that to be very true. personally i like the way the car looks, but not everyone is going to agree with that and i respect that. i've actually talked with that designer in the video at the events they were holding in southern california, and yes he does in fact work with randy. just keep an open mind on this though guys is all im saying...it may not look great to you, but just like the juke it may actually be fun to drive and in the end that is what we all really want.

I think the ID is REALLY ugly, not sure why you'd design something to not be beautiful. Oh, I still throw up every time I see a Joke too

But....you still can't deny that it's fun to drive

Firebase99 03-12-2014 12:37 PM

I dont think the GTR is pretty. Yet i still love the looks. The 370Z is pretty. With a big ***!! HOT!! The ID...I think its different and offers that pacific flair that lacks in the European market. If this car has any guts I could see picking one up, not to replace my Z34 but maybe a toy.

ElVee 03-12-2014 12:47 PM

Yeah super excited to see this vid pop up yesterday. Finally get to see the IDx Nismo with some context (next to another car, on the road).

I have to say, it really looks sweet on the road!

It's going to be a polarizing design that's for sure with some people liking it and some people absolutely hating it but from what I hear that's what nissan was going for in the first place and I'm glad they did instead of just trying to blend in they are actually trying to give their cars some character

I completely agree. I'm even the same way. I actually hated the Juke on first glance, but these days, I actually like seeing it on the road. It has some unflattering angles, but most cars do. I'd consider it if I wanted a vehicle in that segment.

At least they're not boring, anonymous designs. Props to that for sure. Nissan has a whole range of cars that are boring and anonymous. Full support for going with a line of more fun cars that have a look to them. Even if I end up not liking it (not sure about that base model yet), I still want to nod my head, "yes, more please."

jdsto 03-12-2014 04:27 PM

My 16 year old son who is not a car guy things the IDx looks cool. He is part of the new generation that really isnt interested in cars but for whatever reason the look appeals to him, so maybe they have got something right in this concept.

I don't care, I wouldn't drive one, never have. I'd MAYBE consider driving one if Nissan provided just to see if I could break it.

Same thing with a Miata, might be "fun" to drive, it IS the quintessential sports car. Still gay as hell... (Same thing with the FRZ, although I just dislike the looks of the FRZ more than anything)

my point still stands though, different people will react to the design on a car differently. myself for example....i think the current maxima is an ugly car, but since you have one or had one you obviously like it, doesnt make it a bad car, i just dont like the design of it

LOL!! love it!! i cant stand that turd machine either.

UNKNOWN_370 03-16-2014 01:56 AM

What's going for the idx...
1. Similar size and weight to the toyobaru.
2. It will be built to Nissan internal and external build quality standards.
3. Nissan wants this car to have it's own driving characteristics. It won't be a toyobaru copy.
4. It will have either a 1.6/1.8/2.0 TURBO. Nissan won't say. Either way, it will have more balls than a toyobaru.
5. It's another affordable RWD sports car in the game.

I think it's ballzy looking like the GT-R. And if it gets a soundtrack as raw as the focus ST? I'm getting one as a daily for sure.:driving:

SIZE?!?!?! It's a 1950's Caddy compared to the FRZ.
Quality, LOOOOOLLLL!!! Toyota has 5-10 times the quality of Nissan, granted the FRZ is a pretty shitty because they made it on a budget and released it under the shittier Scion name for a reason.

And if it's to sell in Japan, it won't because of the Japanese laws that made the 370Z have no sound

You need to see the car in comparison to other cars. It's very low. Also look how tall Jay is in comparison to the car. Lastly, nissan design engineer stated, the IDX will compare in size and weight. The IDX is also shorter than the FRZ according to the design engineer

Second. If you've been in the newer cars. Sentra, Altima, Juke, Versa. They All surpass in materials compared to there rivals. Even the new Mazda 3 has superseded Toyota workmanship. Pathfinder interior kills most luxury
SUV interiors at the 45k mark.

As far as soundtrack. Most of the ST's soundtrack is heard inside. Lastly, the GT-R sounds awesome outside. Nissan just tried to go GT on the Z exhaust and the buying public wanted more muscular sound. The G37 has a better, more muscular soundtrack, so I don't understand where you're going concerning the exhaust?

PS. The Toyota FT-86 in Japan has the same shytty FRZ interior:ugh2:

i'll agree with you somewhat on the quality point, but toyota as of late is not what you remember them to be compared to the toyotas i know your family owns. i have seen numberous complaints of windshields cracking on their own and interior panels rattling from alot of toyota camry owners that have the 2012 and above model years. as far as the size, i have to stop you there, because if you have actually seen the IDx in person you'd know that it IS actually smaller than the FRS/BRZ by a good margin, but also still has a useable back seat compared to the FRS/BRZ. overall i'm not really sure where you're going with the complete and utter hatred of the IDx, but there's no need for anyone on either the love it or hate it side of the argument to get defensive and start bashing one brand over the other as that is not what this thread is here for.
