WOW, What A Day Saturday Was!!!!
 

So I know this doesn't contain any 370Z content, but I just had to share my Saturday experience with some car nuts.

I'm a Lamborghini guy, have been since I was a kid. It's in my blood. Problem is I don't make the kind of scratch required to own such a beast, so it's pure fantasy for me. I have many stories in my life regarding encounters etc, but I'll leave those for another time. This story from 2 days ago is probably the craziest.

We were at our local mall. After shopping we got in our car, pulled out, and about 4 rows in front of us was a black Gallardo LP560 Spyder. I was like, WOW, AWESOME. So I pulled around, got out and went over to start taking some pictures.

I was squatting down to take a close up of the LP560 badge on the side, when the car chirped. It scared the crap out of me. Then from the distance was a call out, "I got you!" The owner and a young woman (daughter?) were walking up laughing and I started explaining that I was only taking pictures. He was like, "cool, no problem, take all the pictures you want." We chatted quickly, then I told him I was a true Lamborghini guy, not just a car lover. I said, "Wait! I know you probably don't believe me, but I'll show you!" I ran over to my Murano, got in the arm rest compartment, and pulled out a small picture album I made about 10 years prior for just such an occasion. I ran back to the guy and said, "see, here is my garage." Hop in!" I was like, "are you kidding me???" He's like, "naw, jump in!"

In my total excitement I got stupid drunk. Instead of getting in I ran back to the Murano and threw the picture album into my wife's lap and said, "SEE YA!" She was like WTF? I ran back to the Gallardo and squeezed myself in the passenger seat. We backed out and then he jammed it. Wow, just wow. We took a run on the circle road that goes around the mall. He nailed it to the floor every chance he could. It was fabulous. The whole time I was drunk with words. I probably sounded like I had issues, but I couldn't help it, I was giddy like Mr. Scrooge on Christmas morning.

So then he drives into an open section of parking lot and stops the car. We chat some more, then he starts to get out. I was like WTF? Then he says, "come on, switch seats, your turn to drive." :eek: I was like, "Neeeeeeooooooooooo!!!!" He said, "YA, you need to drive it." I was like, "Neeeeeoooooooooo!!!!" By this time he was already around to my side, SO, I got out, ran around and squeezed myself into the driver seat. I was afraid I was going to sh*t myself. I said, "I'm too nervous to drive it with the paddles, can you just put it in fully automatic." He was like, "your Z has paddles right, so it should be about the same." I said," I know but I'm just too nervous right now." So he starts pushing the button and it goes into automatic and off we go. I said something like "I'll take 'er easy," and he says "no no, this car isn't for babying, get on it." So I did. :eekdance: SWEET MAMA!!! Words can not describe how I felt during the next 2 minutes or so. It was just totally unbelievable. :happydance:

We get back to where we started and I pull up and wave to my wife who is standing outside now. She gets this big WFT look on her face. She was in disbelief. I spin back around and pull it up and he says, "this is good, just park it here." So I do and we get out and I thank him profusely. I say, "Hey I didn't even ask you your name." He says "I'm XXXXXXXXX," and I say "I'm Kurt. Thank you!!" He said something like, "No problem, I'm glad I could make your day." I said, "You made my day, my month, my year!"

And then he drove off at a blistering rev. The end to what was one of the best 6 or 7 minutes of my life. :hello:

The rest of the night I was on natural cocaine. I haven't been that high in as long as I can remember. It was truly unbelievable. A complete stranger let me drive his $200,000+ car. Wow, I still just can't believe it. It took 30 years of loving this car to finally get to drive one. It's an experience I'll never forget.

That's awesome!

I had my choice to drive a Gallardo or F430, chose the Ferrari and it was a great experience. Next time is the Lambo.

However, it was in a controlled environment and I paid. Someone doing this out of the kindness of their heart (I guess?) is pretty damn cool.

Most of the time you see these people and think they're too stuck up to even say, "Hello." to you.

VERY FEW things in life have made me want to genuinely change the way I approach the day. You story has flat-out made me want to see the reaction of some of the people here in Fargo if I let them ride/get behind the wheel.

This community I live in admires the Z all the time. And imagining the jubilation and cheer that I could bring to someone has me in cold sweats.

I'm glad you got to enjoy the Lambo, man!

Sounds like a cool guy to let you do that. Next time you're in Vegas you should try the Exotics Racing experience. I went in February and drove an Aventador on the track. Not cheap but well worth it!

It definitely takes a special person to be able to let a stranger drive their car. Definitely kudos. I've known people like that (and often through other people), and while it boggles my mind, I respect them for it.

I probably just have trust issues. :)

Flat out a cool story! How long until your wife calmed down?

A co-worker friend of mine did that last year and he said it was just amazing! He did it about a month before they got an Aventador. He gave me a copy of his video and man does it look like fun. I will definitely be doing that if I can get to Vegas. This year our vacation involves flying to San Fran and taking the week to drive up the coast road in a Mustang convertible (I know I know, but a Mustang was all they listed) to Seattle to see Robert Plant in concert. Should be fun I think.

She calmed down soon enough, but she enjoyed laughing at me the rest of the night by how juiced up I was. She was happy for me. :tup:

Well, until she asked if the experience was better than, ah, ya know, "being" with her. Instead of immediately saying "no, of course not," I paused and said, "weeeelllll??"

Not sure. She was more than happy to jump out and sit on the parking lot curb. I told her to go sit in the air conditioned Murano with my wife but she was fine with it. Even afterwards she was very nice. She was either the coolest young wife or a daughter. I would guess the guy was in his 40's; her, more like 18-20.

The other perk of supercar ownership.

Ya it was a blast for sure! and I got the chance to be taken out in a Gallardo by the professional driver. That was even more intense!

I would have had fun with this and say that you and the guy went to a seedy motel during the drive-around and had a few extra moments of bonding sort of thing. :)

Great story! I cant wait to go on a Lambo drive day, unfortunately in my area all the experiences are limited to age 25+

I did something similar with a distant family friend, we had a big family gathering and one of my dads friends kids (about age 12) was drooling over my car, I asked him if he wanted to go for a ride and I think he almost wet himself!

So as of just today there is an addendum to this story.....

A fairly new co-worker was telling my boss how she has ridden in a Lamborghini, and how they took it to Olive Garden for dinner one time. Of course my boss comes over to goat me a bit and rub it in. Then she starts showing me pictures of the car and I was like, which Olive Garden were you talking about, because I got to drive a Lamborghini up by the one by the mall. To which she starts freaking out and asks, "are you the guy who bumped into a guy with a Lamborghini at the mall by Dicks Sporting goods, and he let you drive it?" To which I had to say, "YES!" We both start laughing hysterically and she proceeds to tell me the entire story from the other side of things. As it turns out, the guy who let me drive his car is her father-in-law, and the girl who sat on the curb waiting for us to get back is her sister-in-law!!! We proceeded to trade more info and sent some pictures back and forth. She texted the man and his daughter and they were both blown away too. What a small world we live in. Craziness.

I'm all excited again today just reliving the story, and now with this new twist, it's even better. I'm smiling from ear to ear.

Met an acquaintence at a place knowing we share sporscar exotic happiness and dreams. I knew he was a Lotus guy like I was. Both had Esprit Turbos.

I wait and he pulls up in a 1998 Diablo SV that I had seen on Ebay. Holy FK! Had the same experience as you - he drives then me. Will be tough to for me to beat that without additional funds.
