Subaru FB 2.5L NA motor

Am I the only one who thinks the Subaru FB 2.5L NA motor is a piece of crap. The engine is noisy, it doesn't make much power and it isn't smooth or rev friendly. Every Subaru fanboys tell me how great that motor is for daily driving, yet no matter what transmission it is attached to. It seems to run into the same exact problem. They claim it makes 160-170HP, but I am very skeptical on that as the car just seems too slow (I dragged my 08 Legacy with my Prius, the Prius came out quicker!) . Of course why would you want to punch that car, the engine is noisy and it sounds like poop?

Sorry for the rant, wasted a few hours at the Subaru dealer yesterday. I can't believe I almost spent $25K buying that thing.

is that the engine in the current impreza and impreza hatch?

i thought overall, the car drove pretty smooth for wat it was. i test drove the cvt one last year. they didnt have any MT that i could test drive. didn't buy the car (hatch), but i thought it was a decent package for the price. slow car though.

My wife's brother bought a Legacy 2.5 Sport...decent looking car outside. Decent inside.

But it is an awful motor, though. Agreed.

Every review and Subaru lovers say how great it is, yet I find the 2.5L NA motor is one of the biggest reason not to buy the car. I drove a 2.0T Forester back to back. Even without driving fast, you can feel how much more quiet and less annoying the engine is. My uncle, who is not a car guy at all, noted how bad the engine sounds up top compare to his regular Honda Civic sedan. With the new CVT constantly revving high too, it is almost unavoidable to miss the scream of the motor scream.
