The OSM (Open Study Model) concept car definitely raised some eyebrows recently at the London show, but that car was just a convertible version of the CR-Z hybrid sports car shown at the Tokyo Motor Show last year. The OSM was penned by Honda's European design team, and our people tell us that the real S2000 successor will have much more influence and input from Japan. Also, the CR-Z and OSM have been engineered as front-engine/front-wheel-drive models, and the S2000 successor will no doubt be a rear-wheel-drive car. So apparently the OSM has nothing to do with the S2000 successor. Or does it...?

There's the possibility that the OSM may very well be a design study of the next S2000, wearing the veil of an open-top CR-Z to throw us off. There was also a sighting of a mysterious prototype sports car near Honda's R&D headquarters in Japan that seemed to share the OSM's proportions, yet looked completely different. Could this be another design study of the S2000? We think so, so we took pieces of that car, melded it with the OSM and came up with this image, a handsome car with an Audi R8-esque face, a long hood and a profile reminiscent of the current S2000.

As for what will go under the hood is still unclear. There have been rumors that Honda may equip the car with a V-6, perhaps a new 3.0-liter or the 3.5-liter in the Acura TL, thus the name S3000. In the U.S., this makes sense because it would give the car much more low-end torque (something we Americans love), not to mention improved smoothness and quietness for freeway driving.

With such an engine, you can expect power to be in the 280- to 300-bhp vicinity, enabling a 0–60 run in the sub-5-second range. The more probable choice is a 2.2- to 2.5-liter inline-4. Honda, which has traditionally shied away from big-displacement powerplants, may feel that a 4-cylinder engine makes more marketing sense in this age of high gasoline prices. There's also talk of a simple hybrid system.

Only those directly involved with the next-generation S2000 project know for sure what the car will be like. We'll know for sure in 2011, after Honda releases the NSX and CR-Z

Anyway, I just saw this in a magazine. I think it looks sharp. Hopefully Honda gets back on the ball with this and their new NSX, even if it is really late.

Too bad for the NSX, theres a blue one around this area looks good.

S2000 is on the skids too right?

That car looks awesome, kind of luxury-like more than sports car though. It doesn't look Japanese anymore, more Audi-esque if you will.

Stupid economy!

I'm a big Honda guy but the S2000 is just too weak and this actual concept just does nothing for me.

WTH Honda.... s2k is over this year, no prelude (2001), no integra (2006), no more nsx, acura looks like batmobiles.... and on top of that america doesnt even get type-r

yeah i'm not a fan yet of the s3k concept, it looks like it weighs a ton and the look is similiar to their acura 09 trash (trash compared to previous years, only in my opinion)

Sounds like it would be faster than the Z. Once it comes out, if it does anyway they'll have all sorts of mods that would make it a very fast car.

The concept became to bubbly. It needs to be more angular to really catch some eyes, me thinks.

I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for the S2000. If Honda had only updated it instead of letting it "die on the vine" I would probably have one of those instead of the Z.

Hopefully if Honda does re-release the S it will be similar in mission to the S2000: lightweight with a screaming 4-cylinder. Honda's V6s are great for passenger cars but I don't think they'd be very good in a sports car.

i considered an 09 s2k until i saw the new 370z

now i just cant justify spending 34k on a 9 year old "new" car (i think you understand the point im trying to convey)

Honda has had a bad habit of making an incredibly desirable sports car (NSX S2K) and then adding new tail lights once every four to six years in order to 'update' them.

This new concept looks terrible. The S2K was an extremely nimble light-weight roadster. This thing looks like a bloated Miata :(

Agreed. Honda has had two world-beating sports cars now that they just let go. The NSX and the S2K should both have gotten regular, solid updates, and Honda would be taking Porsche's marketshare. I realize it's not a huge market, but Porsche makes $28K on average *per vehicle*.

Hope the S3000 is a good one, but I'm not expecting much. The performance numbers may be there, but hybrid drivetrains just aren't ready for the enthusiast cars yet.

I've decided to just sock away money for a Caterham CSR. There's a real enthusiast car. Too bad they're so much frickin' money.

There Is an even bigger rumor that the CRX is coming back. I mean there is TONS of info on this so who knows it could happen!!

Unfortunately, the modern safety regs say it will never be all that the original was. 1800 lbs., fun to drive, 50 mpg with the VX motor. *sigh*

That said, if they do something like a 2-door version of the Fit, without the high seating, it could be cool.

Well it will still be a fun car with a big engine probably have the K20 in it from what I have read. I still belive it will be fun.
