Car Dealers Really rip you off !!!

I thought it might be interesting to share your bad experience buying or selling a car thru a dealer.

We just traded our 2005 Sentra SE 1.8 L with 78k miles on it and 5 yrs. spent in NY winters and 3 in Nevada, basically traded it on a loaded 2013 accord sedan.

We got $5500 trade in for it and got the 2013 Accord at invoice.

About a week later we are at the dog park and we see an Asian family pull up in our old car , I told him it was my old car and asked how much he paid for it.

He said he paid $11,400 for the car OTD with extended warranty. I know the dealer listed the car for 1 day at $8999 and it sold quick.

I didn't have the heart to tell him we only paid $12,500 for it 8 yrs. ago, just goes to show you how they a dealer will really rip someone off.

$6000-$7500 would have been more appropriate price for the old sentra.

This is why I don't mind wasting a salesman's time to look at a car, even when I'm not sure I want to buy. For every minute of their time that you waste, they are prepared to waste that much and more of yours, and try to take you for a few thousand more than you wanted to pay.

Dealerships are entitled to make money just like any business. It falls on the consumer to educate themselves as to how much they are prepared to pay said dealership.

In other words...if they were stupid enough to over pay, then it's their own fault. Caveat emptor.

There is a BIG difference between making a profit and getting every drop of blood out of them as this dealer did.

While it sucks, I totally agree with 6mt. As a car buyer, you have to be the one to educate yourself. Take the time to do the research. Being that this is a car forum, those here are more educated than most on these issues. If they failed to adequately prepare themselves before buying, they deserved to get ripped off..

Is this some kind of regret thread by proxy?

Haggling with car dealers is annoying, the whole "I need to talk to my manager" crap they pull.

Lay out the bottom line price you're going to pay and if they can't do that just walk out. They want your business and will do everything in their power to try to sell you the car. Just stick to your price and you'll be golden.

Complete fault of the buyer. Dealership did what they do, mark a car for sale at X amount of profit and sold it. Buyer did not do what they should have done... Research.

Wow, news flash! This should be on the front page of CNN!!

I would be such a good car salesman. The problem is that I couldn't manipulate or lie to people. The problem with car buying is the lack of transparency.

Bet you'd be pissed to find out your mother got greased on a car deal though.

I agree.

You'd make for a great "stereotypical" car salesman.

I base that on how you're making hardly any sense at all. It's perfect!

Not really, they make significantly more than I do and I'm at 200k per year. Her last purchase was a Porsche Cayenne GTS, before that an X5 for a second vehicle, an 645ci convertible, a Porsche Cayman S, an M3...

 Must be nice. Wish I made half of what you do.

Haha, it's temporary, I'm not doing an overseas contract gig again unless it's somewhere other than a war zone of crap country.
