Need ideas for a daily driver, high MPG, real high please and roomy..

I'm looking for a daily driver, putting too many miles on the Z way too fast (I drive 60 miles a day, sometimes more, 6 days a week!).

I'm looking for something automatic, gets high mileage, roomy (4 door perhaps?) and is around 6k or less.. I've seen a few Prius' go for this amount but they get snatched up fast.

Any ideas? Found some decently priced 96-99ish Civic HXs which get over 30+ city, 40+ highway.

cow 07-12-2009 12:54 PM

I'm in the market for a car with the same thing. I've looked at Civics, but they're usually all trashed.

I've started thinking about Infiniti G20s. They're basically a nicer interior Sentra with a better motor & suspension. I don't think they get 40+ highway, though.

Diversion 07-12-2009 01:10 PM

Yeah an older G20, like mid 90s would be cool to have.. I think most of them were equipped with LSD even + the full leather interior.. would be hard to find a decent car in any shape when we go back that far it seems.

bigaudiofanat 07-12-2009 01:46 PM

Honda civic you can find them and not be trashed, I got my 2003 for 8 grand and it had 63,000 on it great car and very reliable, will probably get another one when this gets over 300,000 on it.

Sounds like a Civic HX is what I need to locate.. a lot of people with over 50 mpg on those things and they are priced decently.

Welps, ended up buying a 1999 Civic Si.. not the best Civic by any means for good gas mileage but it still gets over 30 with all the highway driving i'm doing. I'm making a full tank gas mileage test now and will report back.

Cool car. I like those. Get an alarm, though. They're the most stolen car EVER (not really sure whether that's true, but... y'know).

Nationally it is one or two, but different states have different results. Texas the number one is usually a F-150 followed by the civic. Wonder if my friend will give me a good deal on his Civic Si, though it is only a year old. ;)

Honda Insight

40/43 mpg

The new ones are "nicer" cars, but they're too... I don't know the word. I like them, but I'd never buy one.

Civic Si? Yeah, they are nice, but I see my friends and I am just like..."It is nice..."
Idea for a daily driver:
~Drive to and from work is about 30-40 miles daily.
~Lease a car for two years to daily drive? Just find one of those 99 or 199 a month deals.

Only time I would drive it is to and from work, and not even every day. Have to enjoy the Z during the week once and awhile.
35 miles a day times 365 is only 12775, which means I would be well under the that since I do not plan to drive it on long trips or on weekends.

I've never thought about leasing a car for a DD. That might be a better idea than a cash car.

Jetta TDI wagon. My clear bra installer has one and it gets over 40mpg.

Just thought of it, newer car, nothing fancy, good MPG. Should be low cost of maintenance or try to get one of those free maintenance during lease deals, basic oil changes, etc.

Yeah. I might crunch some numbers this weekend. If I could get a Kia or some crap for $99/ month, it would probably be cheaper over two years than a cash car. The one issue for me, though, would be mileage penalties. I did close to 55k last year.

theDreamer 07-24-2009 10:00 AM

That would be mine concern, but I usually do 15k-20k a year only, and it would be road trips that are the longest. Use those for the Z of course and average 35 miles daily for work and school and I should fall under the needed 12k limit. Though some have dropped it to 10k a year which I think is just crazy for a lease, but they get to make the rules.

You can always buy more mileage at the beginning of the lease if you know you are going to go over.

Good point, forgot about that.
Just went to Edmunds really quick, only deals under 200 I could quickly find were VW Jetta, Toyota Corrola, Nissan Altima. Honda has their Hybrid Civic for about 229, which might be a solid deal (need to work the numbers). Hybrid is a little more, but savings on gas and such might push it ahead of the others, maybe.

You would have some fun with that car. You can flick it around corners without worrying about seeing you back end coming around.

You could take my tC as soon as it gets off the boat from Germany.

bigaudiofanat 07-25-2009 12:14 AM

Just to let you know my dad use to have a 96 honda civic and put like 50 miles a day probably more on it. Died at 408,000 miles on it they just dont die unless you have a teenage son that wants to drag race it.

smurfblu13 07-25-2009 01:25 AM

Porsche Cayenne GTS.. lol

On a serious note though, look into a possible lease on a Jetta TDI as I think someone has said, solid car.

I'd personally buy a used nissan Versa, you can get the cheapie for like 12 grand. or a used one for around 7 or 8 grand. and since they are fairly new, the used ones are still low mileage.
