Eleven judges reviewed the contenders, including three guests, and for the first time in the award's history all 11 voted unanimously for the winner.

They ruled out the fusion because of its price, but its half the cost of the bare bones tesla. These car of the year things always make me wonder where the judges are getting their drugs.

crazyyankfan 11-13-2012 01:07 PM

at least the FR-S/BRZ didn't take the title, or those delusional owners would claim it's the greatest car ever made lol

tonythetiger 11-13-2012 04:47 PM

for the amount of money for the brz/frs, u can get a nice decent wrx

Motor trend's 2011 car of the year was the Chevy VOLT.

Are they still making them?

Motor Trend has a very long history of picking some real losers...

I think maybe in 2009 or 2010 they picked the GTR, so I guess they can't **** it up every time :bowrofl:

Motortrend chooses vehicle from the company with the worst financials. Trollololol

binary0x01 11-14-2012 12:01 AM

I don't agree with their choice.

Jordo! 11-14-2012 05:01 AM

If that Tesla delivers as claimed, it's a huge step in the right direction for the future of cars.

Very cool.

And, I agree, screw the FR-S/BRZ -- now that's a car that received more than its fair share of undeserved kudos. 1980's technology and innovation in the twins vs 2025 technology and innovation in the Tesla.

For once, MT has it right.

nuTinmuch 11-14-2012 01:42 PM

I want one badly. Pretty amazing what Tesla was able to do in a fairly short amount of time.

shadoquad 11-14-2012 05:29 PM

It better win something. Government subsidized luxo yacht for the conscientious conspicuous consumer.

I'm not a fan of four door cars -- but 0-60 in 4 sec with instant torque is a pretty quick land yacht!

I didn't say it was slow. Just that it's a pos.

Fair enough :p

I'm just happy to see some decent electric cars coming out. If they get the battery issues sorted, they will be amazing.

Of course, the limits of batteries are a persistent and tough problem to work around...

I'll be impressed when the technology becomes cheap enough for economy car pricing. Until then, while it represents a "promising future", it's still just a rich boy toy to the masses.

The Volt and Leaf are more attainable, but I don't think they're worth their stickers either.

Hit the market with a decent 20,000 dollar option, that's when I'll "ooh" and "ahh".

Can someone explain the hate to me? I fail to see the downside to this car.

It's good looking, American made, fast, good range, has good storage space, has a cool onboard control system. On top of that maintenance on the vehicle will probably be next to nothing.

The only concern really is battery life and long distance drives. When those suckers go it could end up costing a pretty penny.

Seems like a great companion car to a weekend toy.

Exactly what I was thinking, not sure why people say it's a POS. Everything I have read and seen says different. People fear change.........
