Yeah, we know...

But how do you plan on breaking in the engine of your new Subie?

Red__Zed 10-28-2012 09:53 AM

So are you gonna Cobb it?

Not any time soon.

I've got to worry about keeping it on the road more than making it a beast.

Gonna drive it around while I love it stock.

Then, when I'm through warranty and/or the vehicle is paid off, I'll start to toy.

I have to budget, god damn it. I hear a tune really opens these cars up, though.

The only budgeting you need to do is to leave some cash behind to buy a gun and enough bullets to keep collections at bay.

Depending on who you talk to, a tune is mandatory for the safe of the engine. Not going to talk like I know what's best, though. I only read forums when I'm bored. :p

(That and I've been debating switching to a WRX for the past year simply because I might need something more practical.)

hazzazi 10-28-2012 09:28 PM

Wow, congrats Al... STI looks amazing, enjoy it.

bigsix 10-28-2012 11:47 PM

The new WRX/STIs are cool cars . . . I enjoy owning a Subaru, too. It's an interesting mix: Flat-four engine w/ AWD. The taught, muscular lines of your STI look good- Enjoy!

RE: oil filters. Stay with Subaru OEM oil filters. These cars don't like any aftermarket ones.

Oil is a touchy subject (as usual), but Mobil 1 is fine if you're not pushing the car ridiculously hard. I read somewhere on NASIOC that Rotella T6 is pretty good too, but they're using a different weight than Subaru specifies for some odd reason. HAven't figured that out yet.

I'm using Royal Purp because I have Pep Boys coupons :icon17:

Congratulations Al! I'm sure you will be very happy with the WRX/STi.

phelan 10-29-2012 02:16 PM

No blades, it hasn't, but I was being quite serious about the oil filters lol. Subaru haet aftermarket filters :icon17:

Don't run Mobil 1 in a turbo Subaru. Go search over at NASIOC if you feel like it, but the short version is that the EJ burns M1 at a much greater rate than other oils. No one's come up with the exact reason why, but the general consensus is to avoid M1 like the plague.

Nice pick up! Now pick up an exhaust to unleash some more of that sexy boxer rumble

If you dislike the clear tails (which a lot of people do), red tint film is always a cheap option that looks muuuch better :D

like i said, if you're just puttering around, m1 is fine. but i think i mentioned if you're going to push the car hard, go with something else. rotella t6 has been mentioned quite a bit.

and yes, the brake light vinyls like that are awesome.
