300ZX… What to do with it?

300ZX… What to do with it?

I have a 1990 300ZX 2+2 that I need to sell, but the State of California won’t let me do it! They won’t even let me give it away! It must pass SMOG first.

The car, in its current condition, will not pass SMOG. What should I do?
Valve seals leaking on exhaust manifold causing smoke and the instant FAIL
Has a High Idle also.

Option 1. Pay “up the rear” to get it fixed, then sell it for a possible/probable loss.
Option 2. Sell it out of State, how do I do this? Is it possible?
Option 3. Sell it to a auto Wrecker/Dismantler for pennies… at least I won’t have to pay insurance on it.
Option 4. Any other options available to me?

Can you do a title transfer for cash/barter? I'm in ohio and have no idea how your wacky California laws work.

I do not know a whole lot, but so far I have found that I can't transfer the title without having the car PASS Ca smog first. :(

... and yes, wacky laws!!! dang-it

Any engine and chassis shots?

Looks to be in great shape body wise?

I would pay someone to pass it with the understanding that it will be sold...I'm sure a local Z club knows someone!

keep searching/connecting

Maybe part it out? It will take longer, but better than getting nothing for it.

You mean valve cover gaskets leaking oil onto the exhaust manifold? If the valve seals were leaking oil gets into the combustion chamber, not the exhaust manifold. If its just valve cover gaskets that should be a cheap repair to do. If its valve seals, that's an expensive fix.

Yeah, I thought that was odd too! The substance is leaking directly onto the Driver side 02 sensor and it DOES NOT smell like burning oil. I thought maybe brake fluid, but Z Car Garage does say it's oil. I could have mistaken valve seals for valve cover gaskets though, Ha!

oh, could a bad EGR cause valve cover gaskets to fail after a while?

Drive down to Compton, park it and leave the car running and just leave.

Then have someone follow you to pick you up to ensure your safety!

Thought about that... Compton is too far, Richmond/Oakland is closer... I don't think I'd make it out of there alive though. A couple cop buddies of mine didn't think they would make it home after driving through the area! :hello:

I'm your Huckleberry!

I'd really like this car to go to a good home... it has treated me well in the past and it deserves it! If I can't get something worked out in the next few weeks I'll let you know! :driving:

What are the specs on the car? Mileage, condition, mods, asking price? Got any more pics?

Just sell int out of state. Just put it on AutoTrader or similar and stipulate out of state only and why.
