New DD: So when are we going to get a dedicated Mustang section?

Traded my CRZ in for a GT today. I tried to be green but it was really boring and I just couldn't do it anymore!

This is the first automatic car I have ever had, only trucks before, but its extremely comfortable and will be great for my hour drive to and from the airport.

I went to the ford dealership just to sit in one and see if I liked it, but I was 90% sure in my mind that I was going to get a base 370z/auto on the lease special for my dd, but its a pretty sweet car.

And, now I can give up the pretense that the 370 is a dual purpose street/track car and can go all the way with it!!!!!!!

p.s. I asked Steve what the best mustang forum was and he said the370z.com!

jpritche 05-31-2012 08:39 PM

Congrats man! It looks good!

shadoquad 05-31-2012 08:47 PM

Pretty sweet.

Kidding. Can't wait to see your race car Z

Mike 05-31-2012 09:08 PM

The build is a long slow process, but it will get there. Next is Phunk's fuel solution, then seats, then cage and it should be done.

Its funny, I had the ABS problem that I took it to the dealer for, and apparently, the car stores more codes than check engine codes, and they had an entire page of codes on my car. my problem was just tire marbles stuck in the abs sensor area though. I'm gonna ask for a copy of the codes tomorrow when I pick it up.

azn370z 05-31-2012 09:30 PM

Good decision not buying another 370z as a dd. At one point I wanted a 350z dd and 350z non daily driver. What was I thinking, it would of been boring.

Mike 05-31-2012 10:19 PM

I don't think it would have been, since I only drive my 370 about 7-10 weekends per year. I really enjoyed driving it at Zdayz, which was the first time I had street driven it since last Zdayz. However, the mustang is more comfortable for a DD, and its a heck of a lot more powerful.

864Zbeast 05-31-2012 11:39 PM

Congrats! Love the new stangs. Especially the 2013 tail lights

haitech 06-01-2012 12:57 AM

Congrats on the stable change

EL Diablo 06-01-2012 01:01 AM

:bowrofl: It's true!

If you have any questions about what to do with it I can point you in the right direction. :tiphat:

BTW, glad you'll finally get to gutting the 370Z.

b1adesofcha0s 06-01-2012 10:23 AM

Nice

Red__Zed 06-01-2012 10:26 AM

Looks great mike!

Sibze 06-01-2012 10:27 AM

Need to update your sig again

Mike 06-01-2012 10:50 AM

thanks! Already ordered the iSimple iphone and sat radio gateway. I have a sirius tuner with a lifetime subscription, so its easiest to go this route rather than factory sirius.

Mike 06-01-2012 10:50 AM

thinking about these:
Eibach Pro-System Kit

m4a1mustang 06-01-2012 10:57 AM

Meh. Mediocre dampers. If you want good get Koni Yellows. If you don't want any adjustment get Koni STR.T, but I'd recommend the Yellows.

For a spring, if you don't want crazy low but want a good rate get the Steeda Sport linear spring. Be careful and make sure you get the linear rate, they made a run of progressive before.

Also, you'll want to get some good strut mounts (stock ones are crap). Steeda HD mounts are very good.

Do yourself a favor and call Sam Strano (Stranoparts.com) when he gets back in town. He's a master of Mustang suspension stuff.

I'm running Koni Yellows, Steeda Sport springs, Steeda HD strut mounts, and Fays 2 watts link with 275/35 PSS all around. The car is absolutely wicked.

m4a1mustang 06-01-2012 10:58 AM

Here's the stance on the Sports. Not slammed. Good working travel.

but remember, I'm only using mine for cruising, no heavy duty driving stuff. I just want the looks. I can get the eibach kit wholesale for 440.

speedfreek 06-01-2012 03:02 PM

Mike walks into the dealership...sure I will take it.....as long as it is BLACK!!!

Definately a better DD and congrats on the purchase. Would love to have one along with the Z.

In that case I'd still choose the Koni STR.T (or yellow) + Steeda Sport for better ride quality.

And you're going to have to upgrade the strut mounts regardless. The stock ones will probably fall apart when you uninstall. They have a habit of doing that.

Give Sam Strano a call and tell him what you want, he'll hook you up with the right package. Just tell him Steve sent you. I actually think he's open right now until the 6th of this month before he goes off on more SCCA stuff.

phelan 06-01-2012 03:25 PM

Steve has the hookups on the5.0 now too :rofl2:

Waiz 06-01-2012 03:29 PM

Congrats Mike, thanks for helping my Ford stocks lol

Can we get some interior shots?

I do I do, it's true it's true.

nuTinmuch 06-01-2012 07:15 PM

What front lip is that? It isn't stock, is it? Is it the Boss one?

Whatever it is, it looks really good.

m4a1mustang 06-01-2012 08:06 PM

Yeah it's the Boss lip (not the Laguna Seca).

Mike 06-01-2012 08:30 PM

Interior, but crappy pics

and the tail lights at night, these things are so cool looking. I really like the small details like this, and the two white light strips on the front headlights and the faux vented hood.

m4a1mustang 06-01-2012 08:39 PM

Nice. Have you found the steering settings and sport mode yet?

Mike 06-01-2012 09:07 PM

no, but I have only driven it less than 20 miles. When I fly on monday, I'm bringing the manual with me and reading it over.

what are these steering settings that you speak of?

Also, do you know the wheel offsets? Trying to see if I can fit my Forgestar 18x10+34 on the car. I think I can.

m4a1mustang 06-01-2012 09:31 PM

I don't remember the offsets off the top of my head. I'd look it up but I'm about to pass out!

Steering settings... the 5.0 has the EPAS system (all electric) and on the 2012+ you can manually select I believe three settings... comfort, sport, and something else. You have to cycle through the setup menu to find it. Basically if you think the comfort setting is too soft you can tighten the wheel up a bit.

Sport Mode... hold the brake and tap traction control twice. Now you have more liberal traction control and stability control. On the Mustangs TC and SC are separate systems (you can turn TC off but SC will stay on, you can turn them both off, or you can turn sport mode on). Sport mode on the Brembo-equipped cars is even sportier than the base, but the base should still let you slide the car around a good bit before intervening, and when it does it usually does it smoothly and makes you look good. :icon17:

On my 11 the only way for me to change the steering is to engage sport mode... which is fine, since I always drive in sport mode.

m4a1mustang 06-01-2012 09:35 PM

Just checked... can't find the offset for your particular wheels. My wheels have a 42mm offset.

Zat_Zuma 06-02-2012 07:48 AM

Congrats Mike

I went a different direction but for the same reasons as you did. I wanted something I could get into and just drive. Now the Z can be even more radical and less streetable :p

I purchased a 2012 Dodge Challenger R/T Classic automatic and loaded with most options. Still in transit to the dealership and hopefully I'll be able to pick it up next week.

Ghost cam!!! The lopey idle I get with the trackey is hardly noticeable sound wise compared to YouTube videos I see of ghost cam tunes that 5.0 guys get.

Mike 06-07-2012 08:32 PM

so I ordered
20" wheels and tires
factory front brembo calipers
aftermarket front rotors
posiquiet pads
H&R springs

I'll update my sig pic after the calipers are powdercoated and everything is installed.

m4a1mustang 06-07-2012 08:34 PM
