Toyota Supra Back?!?!

Toyota Supra Successor Back in the Pipeline - Motor Trend

azn370z 05-03-2012 04:33 PM

Cvt? I like everything but the cvt. My next z needs to have a dual clutch. I will never buy a car with cvt. Seriously, the supra rumor has been going on for at least 6 plus years. I don't believe rumors. I don't see this happening, ever :)

red6spd 05-03-2012 04:45 PM

So it will be like the last Supra? Over priced and nobody will buy it? Good job Toyota thats the way to remember a car that was once affordable and quick.

TerribleONE 05-03-2012 04:54 PM

CVT?? :shakes head:

I'd like to see this happen.... As a car lover I'd love for it to happen ... The Supra successor for less than 60k? Could attract more of a buyers market unlike the LFA . It'll be interesting to see how it unfolds... And ultimately put a stop to these rumors... Are they? Aren't they? Bull crap. Lol

Exactly. There's no way 400hp, AWD, and hybrid will be "affordable" for most.

homeryansta 07-08-2012 10:54 AM

automatic sports car will turn off A LOT of buyers.

Cmike2780 07-08-2012 11:52 AM

60k =Fail.

Jordo! 07-08-2012 12:36 PM

I'm not sure what MT is on about... the most likely "Supra" to be built would be something based on the twincharged Gazoo FR-S, which makes power and torque to rival the Z, and would probably be priced similarly.

That would make a lot more sense than the car they are describing...

UNKNOWN_370 07-09-2012 12:24 PM

If the Supra name does come back? It will be a GT-R competitor. It seems like Toyota is too afraid to put out anything thqt competes against a broad selection of cars. Both the LFA and FRS compete in near empty markets in price and competition. Who would buy an LFA anyway?
I like the FRS in general but wouldn't put money into buying one. Its not worth it as a sports car. Not unless it comes with in-house turbo. And if I'm going to FI an NA. Its going to be a Z. At least the Z has Real torque feel to work with to make FI worth it.

Would be awesome, but I think the hybrid is kind of lame. 1998 Supra Twin Turbo is still my all time favorite car. The Supra competed more with the Skyline, not the Z right? If so, this will be a GTR competitor.

 What Supra are you talking about? Perhaps the MKIII? I actually sold my 97TT for the same exact price I bought it for years later with 50K more miles. I bought my 97TT in 98 and back then you had to buy the car as soon as you saw it because dealers could not keep one in stock.

That being said...unless the car is twin turbo it does not interest me. AWD is a change from the Supra history of being RWD but I'd accept even that. I was hoping for something along the lines of the GTR when it came to the Supra, hybrid?

Nice to see it back but the 2JZGTE motor is so good it only needs minor updates. It would have been nice if they released a new Supra with a next-gen version of that VERY capable motor.

Last thing is that the rumors of another Supra have been going on since 99 so I'm not holding my breath on this one.

I think the 300Z TT was a competitor back in the day along with the VR-4 (which is the car I had prior to my Supra) Back then, the GTR was a step above the Supra and not really a competitor in that class.

CVT for the lose, god I hate those things with a passion.

Pauly 07-09-2012 03:02 PM

looks like a fr-s from the front. that one pic where you can see the back of the car, man that thing is hideous

b1adesofcha0s 07-09-2012 03:17 PM

It would be stupid of Toyota to make the Supra a competitor with the GT-R because they already have the LFA for that. The LFA might not be competitive with the GT-R in terms of price, but performance definitely. If Toyota makes a similar performing car for 1/5th the cost of the LFA, they would sell even less of them. I'd guess it's somewhere above the Z, but below the GT-R. Maybe M3 or Corvette territory?

I disagree. The LF-A is a collector car at this point, due to its rarity, and it's expensive enough that only the rich can afford it.. Toyota could do well to make a direct competitor in price and performance to the GT-R. Look at the Aston Martin Vanquish. It was great, and then it was overtaken in the bang for buck argument by later, less expensive Astons.

Meh I guess. Don't know how seriously it will compete with the $100k GT-R if the Supra is at $60k. Maybe it will do the same thing the GT-R did, start out around $60k and then hit the six figure mark like 3 years later.
