Seems more like the Z owner was the snooty person.

PS I like my apple computer even though I am a IT guy.

Easy.

1M is a car you lease.

370z is a car you buy.

on the topic of snooty...have owned my Z for about 2 weeks now...2 of the most snootiest drivers i have come across in the last 2 weeks are the 08+M3 drivers and C63 AMG drivers..they dont look at me directly just in the corner of their eye...and i always get this expression like they think are better in some way..sometimes i feel like doing a kit on my car so i can destroy all AMG and M cars on the road...then reality hits that i am a family man and need to obey the law:tiphat:

Hahahaaaa. The other day I went to pep boys to pick up some cleaning products for my wicked ride... a Z4 was parked in the parallel front parking of the store and he took 2 of the lines parallel spaces. I seen 2 SUV's in those spaces before. Why can't BMW owners park, use turn signals or drive there cars without being in all 3 lanes in 30 seconds. Talk about compensating for a small one. Whenever they are one the road they act like we owe them to get out there way. And everytime they see me they do fly by's. Its like a civic owner got some money and the next day they bought a bimmer... lol:roflpuke2:

The ultimate driving machine is often driven by the ultimate douchebag who can't drive!!!

Bimmers car cool though. As far as price. A manual base 135 with sport pkg overlaps a touring Z. They get up around 4k higher up top so they kinda compete in price. Bimmers are more refined and Z's are Raw! Bimmer is presitge to some and the Z is personality. The only thing is, there's no prestige in driving something less than 75k. So 1's, 3's and 5's don't count. 6 or better, then you sayin' something. If I was really trying to have an image I would have bought a used cayman S which was in my budget range.

I would say that BMW does have prestige, except that everyone is leasing one these days. I considered a 335i for that reason, but reliability was just too bad. I would say that the only thing I regret about the 370z, is the fact that at the end of the day its a Nissan, not some luxury brand. That being said, I've had several clients mistake it for a Porsche, which I certainly don't mind. :happydance:

I actually prefer driving a non-luxury make. I like to buy based off of value and what i am actually getting than for brand prestige. I def would not pay a premium for a badge. The car needs to be better in tangible ways that matter to me enough to justify the added cost, not just be comparable but have a fancy badge. That's why i like that the GTR is a Nissan and not an Infiniti. Gold Diggers probably won't notice you because it's 'just a nissan', but their sugar daddy's in their Porsches and Ms def will and they'll respect the car for sure because the car is a monster, not because it is a 'insert expensive brand here'

Thus the reason why I ended up with a 370z and not a BMW :tiphat:

Pharmacist 05-31-2012 09:44 PM

As a BMW owner now I can tell you there are 2 kinds of bimmer owners. The enthusiasts who appreciate all good cars and are gearheads, and the posers/douchebags who believe anything without a Made in Germany sticker and ridiculously huge pricetag is rubbish. The dichotomy between the 2 camps is very obvious if you surf BMW forums.

Pauly 06-05-2012 12:06 PM

pfft, the bmw has more "character"???
has this douchebag ever sat in a bmw? its like the most plain, vanilla, padded cell feeling slushbox vibe i ever had. couldnt even read the whole page. had to go puke.

dont get me wrong, i like the body style of the Z4 on the outside, but not for tripple the price, no sir. bmw is a good place to go to waste money.

Pauly 06-05-2012 12:22 PM

no offense to bmw owners, but honestly, after getting in two or three of them, nothing exited me or stood out. it just felt like grandpa's car.

Pauly 06-05-2012 12:24 PM

Isnt the 1M cost alot more?, i dont think its ugly at all, ide rather get an E90 M3 all day though.

The NISMO is pure "boy racer" with it's double-decker wing, 5" looking muffler tips, and huge chin spoiler, lol. I don't find that observation "off" at all. I also don't think my car is as "classy" as a BMW, although I view the 1 series as a "now I have a BMW, too! Respect me!" type car. The M3, 5 and 6 series cars, are just classy automobiles, the likes of which Nissan cannot equal for "class". Pull up in an M6, and people respect you anywhere. Pull up in a GT-R, and at some functions people will roll their eyes at your "need to prove" something--never-mind the M6's purpose.

Just my .02

Cmike2780 06-06-2012 10:37 AM

To each his own, but BMW's are kind of like Apple products. You're bombarded with advertising soo much, you start to believe it. I'm a fan of BMW, but image and class isn't with the car, it's with the driver. Pull up in an M6 with Gucci sunglasses, and Ed Hardy shirt, an orange tan and bedazzled jeans and all that BMW will make you look is an even bigger d-bag.

All things being equal and if you're just a normal guy, the BMW does give off an elitist image. No one is going to roll their eyes if you pull up at a function in GT-R any more than say a Porsche, a Viper or Corvette. Most people don't know anything about cars in general, let alone those you would want to impress at some lavish ocassion. If they do, they'll respect and know about GT-R... if their knowledege only spans brand names, they won't know what it is, but they'll think it's probably fast. If anything, I think the GT-R has less of phallic complex than say a Porsche.

Any car that looks fast will make you look like you have something to prove. If you want to look classy, you roll up in something vintage or an Aston Martin. A BMW, while I'm a huge fan, starts to look common and utilatarian after seeing so many. No one is going to say it's crap, but no one is going to be wow'd when a 3 series passes you by either.

Iceagetlc 06-06-2012 12:27 PM

You think BMW owners have issues try joining the mustang crowd. Cars under 400hp don't even exist to them. And the highest form of respect is condescension. My favorite line is "Yea ****** (substitute Japanese car) are really coming a long way, they give the 6 cylinder muscle cars a run for their money". Lol please. I was outrunning mach 1's and GTs since my first Z.

Pauly 06-06-2012 12:54 PM

nothing at all wrong with bmw owners bro. its just not the car for me. the interior kills it for me. it all kinda flows into itself, very plainly. nothing raw or sporty. each to his own though!

Eh. You hear this in every circle. Muscle car guys constantly go on about how terrible imports are. Import guys talk about how unreliable/poorly designed/etc. American cars are.

It is completely irrelevant.

Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear says the only thing wrong with an M3 is you have to be a **** to own one (starts with a "c" and ends with an "awk").

brucelidat 06-06-2012 03:53 PM

^ lol, m3 is a great car though. I just don't like the 325/328 owners (not all of them) who drive like they have something to prove and think their car is a super fats sports car

Econ 06-06-2012 04:20 PM

well i had a 370z, now I have a bmw 3 series coupe.

I must say the 370z is a much more exciting car to drive and i miss it dearly, however I could not pick clients up for a lunch meeting in downtown manhattan in a 370z.

Car wasn't percieved very well on the street.

murphman 06-06-2012 05:10 PM

friend purchased for his real estate job a 08 550i used with 30-50k miles i cant remember but the moment he got it he was already looking at magazine numbers comparing it to my Z. shortly after that he couldnt stop repeating their moto "it really is the ultimate driving machine". he was so cocky about his car is was kind of sad. All i can say is a year later and 1 transmission down he was happy he purchased an extended warranty.

brucelidat 06-06-2012 05:14 PM

Why would anyone compare a 5 series and a Z...

Are you sure it wasn't the murdered out wheels, headlights, tailights, exhaust, drop, and to top it off plates that read "0 NO 5 0". Throw all that on a 3 series and see if its differently perceived lol.

:bowrofl::bowrofl:

Agreed. You'd have no problem picking up a client in a bone stock 370Z.

Our CLK500 has exhaust on it... I wouldn't want to drive a client around in that. I'd rather take them in the S2000.

it's like someone i know who has a TT g37 and had a r8 rev on him. he beat the r8 (this was not me and I as well as the forum does not condone this), but it's sort of the same, let me compare my car to a car that costs significantly less to make myself feel better = insecurity

370Z Purist 06-06-2012 08:44 PM

When the first post of that BMW thread talked about the sound of the door thud when it closed, it reminded me of miata doors. Is that meme still alive?
