I'm pretty sure they all have brembo brakes, just that the Z51 has larger rotors. Being that the main focus of my powdercoating business is corvette brakes, that was something I was very interested in and read about everywhere I could last night.

That being said, there is so much other goodness in the Z51 package that its a must have.
Oil, diff and trans coolers
dry sump,
etc.

That's great to know!

I definitely think I'd spring for the Z51 just to have those features. Will the magnetic shocks only be available on the Z51 or will it be an option on the base?

I've read the Z51 starts you off with Bilsteins, but you can add the magnetics as an option. Hopefully they make the magnetic an option for the base car too.

Why would they not make magnetic an option for base? The C6 has that option

Don't forget the ZR1 is like $100k+

I just wasn't sure how they were going to structure the options this go around.

Seems like just the base stingray with the magnetic ride would be a great choice for a car that not tracked or beat to hell at ZDayZ.

I take all my buying advice from soft British multimillionaires as well.

His situation isn't remotely comparable to yours. I wouldn't rock a corvette if I was making that much either.

Clarkson also hates America.

b1adesofcha0s 01-14-2013 09:13 AM

But he's just so damn hilarious!

C&d claims you have to get z51. We will have to wait and see.

shocks come in three flavors: 1.4- and 1.8-inch Bilsteins in the base and Z51 cars, respectively, or magnetorheological Magnetic Ride Control as an option on the Z51. Chevrolet tells us to keep our test equipment peeled for 1.0 g on the skidpad from even the basic model.

it seems you'd only want the MR if you want to daily / track.

if you dont want to track just get the base as you will also not need the coolers etc.

so it makes sense to me that its only offered with the z51 if that were the case.

I just love how you can tailor this car to your liking. Seems like you'll be able to adjust the following with DSM:

Throttle response
Steering effort
Shocks (with the magnetic control)
Traction control (10 levels?)
E-diff control (maybe?)
Exhaust note
Active fuel management (seems like you can disable the V4 mode)

I am a bit concerned how the AFM will hurt or interfere with aftermarket power adders though. I believe in most cases in previous vehicles, for the big power adders and tuning they disabled it.
