Then again, if you are basically stock, it doesn't matter since you'll be covered under warrantee like you said. |
Love the STi, considered trading my 2011 Evo for one. But the stock internals won't handle anything past stage 2, and the reason for me getting rid of the Evo originally was bc I wanted big power - and didn't need to be spending all my money on mods. I'm afraid it would've happened all over again w/ that car. MUCH happier with the Z stock than the Evo (and probably STi). Glad you're happy though, they are damn good looking cars!

There was ringland issues because the STI run's too lean up top from the factory tune. Once you richen up the top end you have no issue. They also blow from people adding performance parts without a tune and leaning it out even more.

I didn't care for the hatch either. This design is just right for this car  and this blue is beautiful |

Jeff was the cobb tune a plug and play tune or was it done by a tuner? It all really depends on the reliability of the tune for me. I want fast but safe, if that makes sense.

I just have the cobb OTS tune and It is great. Yeah a protune could squeeze out a little more HP but I know its safe now, and it feels so full up top. The car is so down-tuned and lean from the factory that most people say (and I agree) the sooner the better for a tune.
|
I've read about a couple of people with stage 1 OTS tunes with no other mods blowing up and pointing to ringlands. That's what bothers me.

Heres a somewhat confidence inspiring thread on the issue.
The Official: I have not had any broken ring land thread! - Subaru Impreza WRX STI Forums: IWSTI.com |
The ringland issues on newer models are a result of people not breaking in their cars correctly, and going nuts with CAI / bolt-ons without ever tuning. The Z is somewhat forgiving of this, the WRX line isn't.
As far as tunes go, I had the Cobb AP, but I have to say the latest updated HyperTech is a BADASS piece of work, and is safe too. Just to give you a second option from the whole "Cobb or bust!" opinion on NASIOC. |

With that said, as an STi owner you won't have an option lol. Cobb is the only dominant company with out of the box STi tunes. Not gonna hold my breath for a new iteration of the STi - bleh, the new models look weak compared to the GRenades. :) |

Hey 370forme. Nice car and color I got myself a 12 Sti sedan as well and I love it and love it some more. I had ordered the plasma blue as well but it was Takeing to long to get in so I just took a silver one. Sti deff needs a tune couse soa tunes em lean for emission reasons. Good luck with your car :)
