Camo V6 version

I was surprised that the V6 version had direct injection and get's really good gas mileage. I believe it's like 29mpg vs the Z's 18. I guess having direct injection really make a difference.

I wonder why the V8 didn't get it. Im sure it would added more power and better gas mileage.

That 29 mpg is highway EPA rating. The 370Z's highway EPA rating is 26 mpg. I would be raving about the Camaro's highway rating if can produce 332 hp like the 370Z but it doesn't.

^What he said.

370Z 18/26 332bhp

Camaro 18/29 300bhp

Direct injection won't find it's way into "tuner" type vehicles for a while I bet seeing Direct Injection is very sensitive to radical modifications.. Chevy probably saw people wanting to boost the v8 Camaro in the future and felt the DI system would not tolerate it well. The PSI during the compression phase in the piston is ridiculous and under boost, I could see it not liking it one bit.

There's still room for improvement on the DI system, I'm pretty glad we don't have it in our Zs.. YET.

Cobalt SS/TC's are direct injection, along with anything else using the same motor (Sky Redline, Solstice GXP). So are MazdaSpeed3's, which is also turbocharged of course.

Almost guaranteed, the reason the SBC isnt DI yet is merely due to its design. It will take a radical redesign of the SBC.

Anytime lol. Direct Injection is the new cool...its just in more cars than even I know off the top of my head heh.

I do know that, fuel in the oil is a lot more prevalent in DI FI cars...slips past the piston rings into the oil...

DI definitely has its merits, but it can be a nightmare for tuners.

tvfreakazoid 05-11-2009 04:29 PM

Thanks for clearing that up.
Why would DI be a nightmare for tuners?

The new Porsche 4.0l flat 6 is DI and it will most likely make it's way into the 998 turbo/gt2 series.
