I think Subaru has made them all look the same. The best ways to tell the difference is the Brakes and maybe the wheels, not sure about the wheels.

Spec Jay 09-07-2011 07:21 PM

main difference is brakes and wing. wrx comes with no/stubby wing vs the sti's. and of course brakes. wrx wheels look pretty similar to sti wheels already.

Gas mileage in both the Z and STI suck so if that is a concern look for a different car altogether. If you want power and gas mileage look no further than a C6 Corvette. Used to get 32mpg on the hwy with that thing doing 80+ to California. Then again this won't solve your AWD itch for snow and rain. Honestly in a performance car gas mileage shouldn't even be a factor; or at least that's my opinion. That's the price I pay to have a fun car

not anymore. 2011 WRXs got the widebody.

The STI has stuff like the wing, and some little accents all over the car (fender, over the exhaust pipes, etc), grille...and of course rims/brakes

i get about 32 on the highway with the z :happydance:

djpathfinder 09-08-2011 12:28 AM

Still considering an STI to replace my wife's 2002 Maxima. At first we liked the 5-door more, but the more we see the 4 door, the more we like it (other than the outrageous wing).

phelan 09-08-2011 12:34 AM

if mileage is a big issue the new base impreza is pretty good. 36 on an AWD system is badass.

urvokbm 09-08-2011 10:33 AM

I'm absolutely shocked

to hear so many people say the Sti sedan is ugly... and the wing is horrendous? are you people smoking crack before you get out of bed in the morning? no disrespect intended but I'm willing to bet that every person who feels this way is over 40yrs old, and is clearly not an enthusiast. my dad is 51, and I'm 21. we both agree that the 2011 Sti is one of the best looking cars on the road. I know we are all entitled to our own opinion but if you beg to differ you must have terrible taste in cars. the ONLY thing the Z has on the Sti is elegance, or "class" as some like to put it. remember we drive a sports car!!!

All the benefits of a WRX without the performance... :stirthepot:

The wing is pure "boy racer". The car looks sporty, but not classy in the least. I'm not yet 40. The car looks nice, but its styling is over-aggressive with a huge wing.

Also, "I know we are all entitled to our own opinion but if you beg to differ you must have terrible taste in cars"... :shakes head: That's a troll statement if I've ever read one.

azn370z 09-08-2011 10:43 AM

I'm sorry but taking a $15k car and adding a spoiler or what not doesn't make it look much better. People don't buy the sti purely for looks, just like people don't buy a civic si just for looks. The sti looks ok but it will never turn heads, people will never stop you to ask what it is. No offense to sti owners. It's not a bad looking sedan.

cossie1600 09-08-2011 10:44 AM

looks is subjective. what makes your opinion so much better than others. grow up

djpathfinder 09-08-2011 11:04 AM

I'm not 40 either. Also, what makes you think you're more of an enthusiast than anyone else here? Anyhow, function over form is what I follow.

nuTinmuch 09-08-2011 11:16 AM

I think the wing is awesome.

I also would make my STi obnoxiously loud, though.

So :p

Technically, the wing is functional.

It's still too over the top for me, but it's in NO WAY as bad as old Sti wing. With the new styling, it almost fits.

That probably depends on where you are. The wrx actually gets a ton of attention, even in silver. A lot more than I'd like to be honest.

Of course, part of that just comes from the fact that you can't buy one.

I do like that aftermarket exhaust note that's very characteristic of a WRX or STi. Wonder if it's loud inside the cabin.

Depends how loud you go with your exhaust.

The sound is amazing. Gotta love a flat four with unequal length headers.

djpathfinder 09-08-2011 12:16 PM

I've been happy with Invidia for both my vehicles so far, so I would consider that if I had a WRX.

shadoquad 09-08-2011 12:17 PM

I might get a scooby for my next DD. Problem is, I like to buy new and they are hella-tough to nail down new these days.

If you decide to get one, I can put you in touch with the guy I bought mine from. He did a no-BS, $500 under invoice deal with snow on the ground while it was the only wrx within 60 miles.

I guess this state has a lot of wrx so the sti blends in. But take off the spoiler and only an enthusiast would know it's a sti.

urvokbm 09-08-2011 02:06 PM

my sincerest apologies if I offended anyone with my over-opinionated reply. I am not trolling, I just love the 2011 Sti with a passion. whoever said that this car will never turn heads and that is it "ok" looking is WRONG. the wing is a little outrageous but it has a purpose and I actually think it looks great on the car. maybe a tad boy racerish but I'm 21 years old it's right up my alley. To the OP, the reason I commented on this thread is because I have also been looking into trading the Z in for a 2011 Sti sedan in pearl white. I absolutely love everything about the car, the only thing left is to test drive one. As soon as I do so I'll chime in on performance compared to the 370z. Thanks for understanding fellow 370z owners, and once again my apologies for my previous comment.

Red370 09-08-2011 02:07 PM

speaking of STI's, a coworker of mine challenged me to a lap of the ring today, he's completely stock btw, i've seen his setup (could be running a tune, but stock airbox/exhaust), i'm pretty much thinking hes going to get his arse kicked by a minute or so.

Red__Zed 09-08-2011 02:22 PM

What do the 5.0s run the ring in? I've never seen a published time

I'm not looking to trade in my Z for one. I'm looking to trade my DD for one.

I test drove one a while back. Wasn't impressed with the handling or interior, but that's because I was looking for a toy. I'd have to drive one again to evaluate it as a DD. Different set of parameters.

HATED1 09-09-2011 11:01 PM

alright guys here"s the update, went to the dealership, got all the things i wanted in the sti. but....one thing i can not get over is the huge differece in the interiors.

I believe the z spoiled me, the STI interior is not bad, but not great either. The braking in the z is much better, but the power and everything was quite the same, but with the STI having more potential.

im on the fence right now, i love the z and am finfing it hard to get rid of just because it is a head turner, but the STI would be awesome in the winter months and much more fun.

djpathfinder 09-09-2011 11:15 PM

Congrats! Gonna get ours in the next few days too. Did you go with the Sport-tech package? We're going to get the 4 door STi with STP and homelink.

HATED1 09-09-2011 11:21 PM

Hey djpathfinder, i saw you on the other sti forums, forgot which one, but i didn't get it yet, but was gonna do it with the homelink, short-throw, shift-knob, and cf rear piece. Seeing that you live in Canada, you def! need to get one, there are some nice modded 2011's i see rolling on that side.

I'm on iwsti. Do you use the same handle there? I thought the STi came with a 6 spd short throw shifter already? The WRX definitely needs a short throw and something in place of that ugly and very unergonomic rubber knob.

Yes, I have to park the 370Z, but my wife needs a car for all 4 seasons. Should be fun to drive year-round. From the little I've read, sounds like there's a lot of modding potential for the STi, but you must be careful cuz the car can be quite finnicky. I guess every make and model has their individual behaviours and problems. That's the thing, there are so many modded WRX or STi's running around...can't keep up with the Jones'. LOL!

djpathfinder 09-10-2011 07:06 PM

OK, we went to the dealership today and put an order in for a 2011 WRB STi sedan with Sport-Tech. Tough decision between white and blue. The blue is so vibrant and such a classic Subaru color. We opted for the rear view mirror with Homelink, short throw shifter and bushings as well.

HATED1 09-11-2011 12:30 AM

DAMN YOU GUYS AND PEER PRESSURE!!!!Congrats!

djpathfinder 09-11-2011 01:31 AM

It was just pure coincidence that you started this thread when you did cuz we had been finalizing our decision on a replacement car for my wife. So it was perfect timing to read what others had to say and was able to participate in the discussions. I wouldn't say peer pressure...it's more like jumping on the bandwagon.

So, are you keeping your Z? When do you take delivery of your new STi? What color? Sedan or hatch?

You can still put in an order for a 2011?? Do you mean 2012????

My '12 DGM Hatchback should be arriving in the next few months...I hope :(

djpathfinder 09-11-2011 02:05 AM

Sorry, I don't mean made to order as a 2011. Yes, mine will be a 2011. They have to locate one for me. Some 2011's still at port (in Vancouver), others still to arrive. Selection is getting slim though. The WRX and STi for 2012 are being made and will be the current body style where us the other Imprezas will sport the new redesign. I was told they were expecting those in late Oct or early Nov (?).

HATED1 09-12-2011 06:17 PM

I'm thinking a white sedan and trading in my z :( unsure though

The STi looks sharp in white. It was such a toss up between rally blue and white. If they can't get a blue one for us, we'd gladly take a white one. The other color I like is dark grey metallic. That is very similar to my 40th anniv Z. The drawback is it's almost as hard to keep clean as black. The STi will be a winter driven car, so we decided against that one.

djpathfinder 09-12-2011 08:56 PM

Hey, for all you guys who are getting or are eying out an STi, and haven't seen this thread before...here's some ideas on mods:
