Having some problems with my current car.

I need your advices. I know my car isn't as nice as any of yours but currently I drive a saturn 98 with 140k + miles on it. I noticed for a while now that sometimes when my car is idling the rpm are at almost at 2k. I talked with some people but they can't seem to give me an answer. And just recently my service car light just came on. Hopefully it's nothing to serious.

You need to find a friend in your area that knows something about cars :)

High idle followed by SES light, it's probably some emissions sensors going bad (say, bad O2s), or other emissions-related problems (EGR tube leaking?), etc.

Could be anything really, though. Step one is hook up to the car's computer and read what that SES light means. Step two is to fix whatever the SES light indicates. Step 3 is probably to get caught up on preventative maintenance if you're keeping the car, there's probably lots of little things wrong (spark plugs? PCV? air filter? the list goes on and on).

Thanks. Will look in to it.

I hate to say it, but there's your problem right there.

So you know, I'm not trying to be snobby at all, but I think you're about to enter the "one thing after another" phase of car ownership trying to keep that thing together... and I only know that because I've been there a couple of times.

Get the code read. Sounds like EGR valve or tube potentially. If it is accessible you fairly easily remove it and clean it out with carb cleaner. Some times then get clogged up to the point that they don't work anymore.

Well i'm thinking about droping a new engine in there. I could get it done for about 1200 bucks or maybe less. I would like to have a car that I can drive around as a daily and have my 370 as a weekend driver.

Honestly the car isn't worth 1,200. That's money towards a down payment.

Get the Z and rock it daily.

If your idle shoots up to 2k rpm, you might be looking at a vacuum leak. If the egr ports are cloged, then you would be looking at high emissions. But if it is stuck open, you would notice driveability problems. If its not a vacuum leak, you may be looking at a bad idle air control motor. Good luck.

Thanks for the great info. So far it doesn't happen very often. But I will have a buddy look at it.

Sorry for the bump, but just want to say that this thread helped me a lot with regards to car problems. Thanks for the advice.
