Lookin at the Shelby

So I took my wife and her explorer in to the dealer today to fix a creak in the drivers side door. We are also considering trading it for the new explorer so we went into the showroom. The first thing to catch my eye is a 2012 black Shelby. Man it was really nice. I joked with my wife about trading in my Z for it. Everytime we talk about my Z she states how good of a wife she is for letting me a father of 3 have a 2 seat car. So what do I say? "The Shelby has 4 seats!" she wasn't amused. She asked me why I didn't get it to begin with. I thought about the Shelby, but in the end I'm just too cheap to but a $55k car. Maybe when I'm old and retired, but not now.

I love the GT500s, but now is not the time to buy one IMO. They are going to do some big things with it in the next model.

They're nice cars, and I had them on my list. But in the end I really enjoyed the performance and feel of the Z over the American cars on my list. I used to be a mustang fanatic, but you cant beat the exotic, luxury feel of the Z. My own personal opinion of course. And when you compare the price and warranty, I just couldn't beat the Z. A loaded GT500 was going to be $20K more than my Z. Easy choice. :D

I agree. Not a good buy right now

Like I said. I'm a cheap bastard, but for me it would have been closer $15k. That was still too much of a difference.

The Shelby is one of those cars that will never be called a "good buy".

I respectfully disagree.

Agreed. It's a pretty badass car, but if I was going to shell out the money for one I would wait a little longer because the next one is going to blow the current one out of the water.

I have to disagree with your agreeing to his disagreement. I don't necessarily debate the point at hand, but you simply went along with his dismissal too early and easily. I don't agree with that.

Personally, I see too many Mustangs, and so many of them are V6ers. I do like them, and have considered buying one, but the Z won me over in the looks department.

Lemers 05-27-2011 01:18 PM

What I meant as it never being considered a "good buy" is bad fuel economy and high price tag for a mustang.

Don't get me wrong I'd rock that car all day long but it's just not consumers report best buy material.

Maybe I'll look into the 2020 after my kids are out of the house.

I have a friend with one. He babies that car, won't track it, won't auto-x, barely drives it for fear of scratching the paint. Nice car but if you can't drive it hard what is the point? I like the Z because I can beat the bag out of it and not feel bad about it.
