I drove a Hyundai Genesis and the ride was awful.. like using steel wheels..Completely unsuitable for daily driving on anything but the smoothest roads... and perhaps it was not fair, but the one I drove made a hell of a squeal when I hit the breaks even in moderate braking.. The dealer told me some rust had accumulated on them..

Additionally, the transmission was reving at 4500 rpm at 45 mph..really annoying and sure to wear it out rather quickly... again this is probably not the way it was supposed to be and the dealer should have caught that..and maybe its not fair to judge but the entire incident brings up the point that there is more to a car than a big engine.. there is the matter of QUALITY and I just dont think Hyundai has as much quality as Nissan.. Yes they have upgraded but based on my experience, and even realizing that this was just one incident and probably the dealers fault, I would still much prefer Nissan quality ..

Really - & you think the Z is like driving on clouds?

I have to disagree with the sound part. The 3.8 sounds insane, very similar to a Z actually. There is something to be said about that exhaust note...

It's not going to be as fast as a Z with the same driver, even with the extra hp/tq. It will make the car more marketable, however. A lot of people take mag times/specs extremely seriously and go solely by that, so it may help the car sell a little better. Hopefully the car won't cut power under high RPM shifts like it did when it first came out. The dealer did an ECU mod for it, but hopefully the new one won't come with it. That severely hampered the cars performance (I believe they tested it with/without and it improved by .3 and 2mph in the 1/4).

Nothing sounds like a VQ LOL. Well you might be right, you have gone through what 76 exhaust set ups by now? So you must have a good ear for exhaust sounds.

If they keep the same crappy 6MT and soft bushings, it might lower the time to mid 13s.

If they improve the transmission or put in a DCT with better bushings, this will be a low 13 car.

BTW, 333hp is for the sedan, the current sedan gets 286 from the 3.8, the coupe gets 306. It isn't far fetched to think it will get 340/350 (on 91oct) in the Coupe.

I think the really good news is the 2.0T getting the DI treatment with upgraded turbo and manifold. Early testings have shown 300whp is attainable with a stage 1 on the Sonata.

A 300whp, sub 3300 lbs, RWD, LSD, turbo, 32 000$ (CAD) car is a VERY interesting performance and value proposition IMHO.

No I never said that but I drove the Genesis for a full day and a half.. the dealer let me do that,, and believe me its much rougher than the Z, I had plenty of time to get the feel of it and .,.it really is much harsher on the roads.,.I just could never enjoy it unless I was on smooth highways.. you really felt every bump and it was not at all pleasant.. The Z really is much better..

They are real seats, plenty of leg room, problem is head room. Unless you're 5"6 or less, you'll need to hunch back to fit.

I like where Hyundai is going. Although, I'm just tired of these Genesis coupe's driven by high school kids doing ricer flyby's all the time. It's kind of funny to see actually, but it gets annoying. Maybe with the bigger motor they'll have less to prove. The car looks good, but the build quality is much better on the Z once you get up close. The FT-86 is a better prospect.

I'd also reserve judgement until people actually test the car. Correct me if I'm wrong, but dosn't the Nismo 370z have a similar 0-60 time as the standard Z with 18 more hp? I've also read a post with Z's breaking into the high 12's with exhaust & flywheel upgrades. I'm just wondering how much the actual hp bump on the Genesis will actually improve overall performance.

An 18 HP bump on a 300+ HP car is very minimal. Probably will not change the 0-60 time much at all.

If it was a 100 HP car with an 18 HP bump then you will probably see a change lol

A car with 1000 HP getting an 18 HP bump isn't even noticeable.

Also remember that the Nismo has a much stiffer suspension which makes it much harder to launch compared to the already hard to launch regular 370z. Suspension plays a roll in 0-60 and 1/4 mile as well. That's part of the reason the Nismo doesn't post better times.

I'm glad Hyundai is stepping it up, maybe Nissan will finally give the Z some turbo's again. And for all those stating that Nissan won't do that mid model I remind you of the 280zx.

I don't think we will get turbos but most likely direct injection.

I say this because I really don't think Nissan will design a new engine just for FI.

If the Z survives for another generation then it is possible it would get turbos.

I think if the Z does get TT in its next generation, it might be a smaller version of the setup in the GT-R. I think by then the next generation of the GT-R might be out too, so they might use a smaller version of the current GT-R setup. Maybe same turbos with the current VQ37 or maybe a smaller engine. Just my :twocents:
