I wonder if it is going to weigh more than 4,000 lbs.

I heard they were shooting for 3 tons this time.

More is better, right?

Yes. The heavier the car, the more gravitational downforce it produces.

flashburn 02-09-2011 11:34 AM

Well, since they didn't mention a weight, I'm going to guess it's heavier than their normal V8, which I guess makes sense since this one is supercharged, but still, I'm sure they could of found a way to trim the fat a bit for this model.

toxik 02-09-2011 11:39 AM

who would choose this over a corvette?

flashburn 02-09-2011 11:51 AM

Well, it should be a bit cheaper, and it has a back seat. Other than those reasons, no clue. Same reason the Z28 created issues for Chevy in the first place, it ate into the Corvette market (or vice versa).

Vegitto-kun 02-09-2011 11:57 AM

that thing is so ******* hot.

hmm really? this ZL1 is gonna be cheaper than entry level corvette? That new Grand Sport (or whatever it's called) corvette model should be same price probably.

m4a1mustang 02-09-2011 12:08 PM

Yeah I don't think it will be cheaper than the entry level 'Vette but some people just prefer one type of car over another.

flashburn 02-09-2011 12:13 PM

How much is the normal V8 Camaro? Isn't it like under $35k? I was guessing this would be about $42-$45k. So it would be slightly cheaper. I think it has to be at least a few thousand cheaper, or no one is going to bother.

m4a1mustang 02-09-2011 12:15 PM

Hmm... a loaded SS is going to take you well over $40k.

flashburn 02-09-2011 12:23 PM

Well maybe they won't offer those options on the ZL1? I dunno, I'm not really interested in buying it, I just love to watch the Horse Power wars of the 21st century.

theDreamer 02-09-2011 01:29 PM

The problem is the HP wars of the early years are not the same, but two companies are fighting like it is (GM & Dodge). Weight is the new factor and while that is slowly being pushed up across all companies, many are finding ways to keep the same weight with tougher restrictions.

HP sells cars bro. I have a neighbor with an old charger RT, and he's completely convinced he can smoke anything:rolleyes:.

Most people are just idiots when it comes to cars.

Truth.

Like all the Scion drivers that try to race me because they legitimately believe that they can win.

The kill section of their forums is full of people claiming that with a "good driver" they can beat a 5.0, and they wind up believed their car is capable of it.

I feel like I am being trolled here....yet at the same time believe it.

nuTinmuch 02-09-2011 01:52 PM

Food for thought.

When I was first car shopping, I was convinced to at least test drive the new Camaro. While I didn't like it, the salesman told me he could "make me a deal" -- so I stuck around and decided to listen.

Needless to say, he was talking 43 grand. I nearly shot out the door, propelled by laughter. I could've literally walked out with a Corvette and paid the same thing.

I doubt it is the same way now, but people -were- paying that when the Camaro first came out. Some people just love the car and believe it is amazing.

IMO, though, all of these performance fixes do nothing to fix the real problems with the car: weight, ergonomics (holy **** it is uncomfortable), and visibility that makes the Z feel like an air traffic control tower.

theDreamer 02-09-2011 01:55 PM

nuTinmuch, I hear they changed the steering wheel, so they fixed one thing. :p

These rumors start when one guy races a Mustang with a 5.0 badge.... but isn't actually a 5.0. :) Hell, you can pick up those badges at Autozone right?

Someone who:

-Wants a back-seat
-Doesn't know 'vettes sell for $10-20K under sticker
-"Just likes the look"
-Was a kid when the ZL1 first came out and it was their dream car and now they can afford one so they buy it to get a bit of closure for their fantasy.

Well, that's the thing, the ZL1 was only produced in 1969, and only 69 of them at that. It was truly retarded of them not to call this a Z28, as at least that would of suckered a few people in.

got ours for under 35k over a year ago when they where hot off the press.

Also for those wondering, my girlfriend traded her Corvette for the Camaro for the simple reason of needing a backseat. So yes, there are those out there that will choose the Camaro over the Vette simply because of the backseat. This ZL1 sounds like a blast but I wouldn't pay more than 45k for it personally.

Endgame 02-11-2011 01:36 AM

fail

i hope the boss whips it at the track. if not the boss, the GT500 will. this thing will weigh more than my wife's cx7....

Nice!

I was mainly referring to MSRP. I know GM deeply discounts everything they sell. :icon17:

TongMan 02-11-2011 09:10 AM

I guess this is Chevrolet's competition against Ford's GT500

Keep in mind that the GT500 is a dead heat for the CTS-V at the track or the strip. I doubt the Z28 will be slower than the preexisting CTS-V.

m4a1mustang 02-11-2011 09:40 AM

Also keep in mind that there is a new GT500 in the works. The 2011 GT500 going to be destroyed by the new one. :)

:iagree: If anything, the 'maro should be faster since the cheaper interior materials should also be lighter.

In 2013 as a YM2014 maybe. Everyone was so pumped about 2012, but they wouldn't even put the Watt's link in. Then it was "oh they will put a TVS in it so it can have even less effective power-delivery!". No. No TVS.

The GT500 has evolved as far as it can without a new platform or cost-ineffective modification of this one.
