Inspector: sir I'm afraid you failed emissions

Boss owner: try this blue key

This is actually one of the reasons I'm torn about getting the car. Most people that have dedicated track cars tend to use a cheaper car on the track, and their daily driver is more expensive. In my case, the best I could reasonably do is keep my Z as a DD, or get something cheaper like a Juke. If they would just announce they are doing a 2014 Boss that would make things easier for me.

crash1369 02-03-2011 06:58 PM

...:eekdance: I actually called two ford dealers, and was actually just about to go check out the website.

I never thought I would see the day I would ever be looking at a Mustang... I'm scared :wtf2:

Exactly. That was the ENTIRE! point of the "retro" redesign in 2005. Looks like they hit a home-run considering that you nailed it to the letter without even knowing what you were looking at.

500 per year is no big deal, but Ford is notorious for "Market Adjustments". When I worked for them, we had an FGT that we put a $100K "market adjustment" on and finally sold for $239K (MSRP was $153K).

If you get in a new BOSS at MSRP, it will be a "good deal", considering.

Ford seriously failed to deliver with the new GT500, considering SVT claimed they ran VIR in 2:58.XX and yet the Lightning Lap pegged the car at 3:04, and noone has yet come close to SVT's time. I am waiting until this BOSS is independantly tested to say more than "It looks like a good idea, and the "track key" is a neat feature".

flashburn 02-04-2011 07:24 AM

From the Mustang sites I've visited, pretty much everyone is being able to order the normal Boss and LS at or around MSRP (even below). Of course the allocation of units is another story.

Ordering I don't doubt, but if you wait until it hits a show-room floor, you are going to see "market adjustment" stickers all over the place. Mainly on the Leguna Seca's.

m4a1mustang 02-04-2011 07:47 AM

99% of the Boss sales are all going to be from pre-orders. It will be very rare to find one on the showroom floor that hasn't already been sold.

Lemers 02-04-2011 07:50 AM

Mustang are you gonna trade in yet another new car for the boss?

Yeah, that's what I'm seeing too. Almost every dealer that has an any allotment has been either pre-sold, or they are asking well above MSRP and haven't found any chumps yet to buy it.

Sounds like the first ones should start to be delivered in a week or two.

I bet plenty make it to the floor. One would have thought the FGT would have been sold-out, but I saw one at every dealership I went to when they hit the ground.

m4a1mustang 02-04-2011 08:01 AM

FGT was a lot different than the Boss, though. The Boss is very accessable. Lots of people held off buying a regular GT so they could get it. Just from the activity I've seen on the forums there are gobs and gobs of orders. I am sure there will be many that make it to the showroom, but the overwhelming majority will be sold before they even hit the lot.

crash1369 02-04-2011 09:59 AM

I called two dealers out here, who both say they have one ordered. Neither knew when they were coming in though or would admit to a price but one of them claims there will only be four in the NY area, supposedly

flashburn 02-04-2011 10:02 AM

No way there will be only 4 Boss' in all of the NY area. I'm sure there will be more LS model's in that area even.

m4a1mustang 02-04-2011 10:07 AM

They might have meant showroom models. Like I was saying, the vast majority have already been sold and will only be at the dealership for the delivery process.

flashburn 02-04-2011 10:37 AM

True.

crash1369 02-04-2011 11:39 AM

I'm sure they were trying to impress a sense of urgency
All I know is their supposed to call me when they come in and I'll see what kind of deal their trying to make. If I can't race my Z I may have to make the switch... I'm still shocked I'm even considering a Mustang though, I hate fords :rofl2:

flashburn 02-04-2011 11:54 AM

If you haven't already watched the hour long documentary on Speed about the new Boss, you probably shouldn't. If you do, you'll do whatever you can to get it. :rofl2:

:rofl2: Damn you, I knew nothing about it. Ignorance is bliss but now I'll have to find it so I can watch it :driving:

:bowrofl:

Yeah, a buddy of mine is diehard GM and he's been around my car for a bit now and admitted to me just recently that it's totally changed his perception of Ford. :icon17:

The Boss is going to be a great turn-(red)key track mule for sure. :yum:

Cmike2780 02-04-2011 12:42 PM

I would be curious as to how it would stack up against a GT-R on a track.

I don't think that'd be a good comparison at all. The GTR is stupid-fast on track.

Lemers 02-04-2011 01:04 PM

So a track ready car isn't as good as a street car?

They racrd the GTR stock against the LFA ($500K) and the GTR lost by a fender or less.

So m4a1mustang is right, they are stupid fast on the track.

Just because it's track ready doesn't mean it's going to compete with a supercar.

flashburn 02-04-2011 02:17 PM

Wait, so you are telling me this won't stack up against a Lambo either?! WTF The "F" in Ford must stand for "Fail"!

I feel that the tiny tiny ~$40,000 price difference should have no effect on outcome between two sports cars!

i saw an episode of 'battle of the supercars' (shown on the speed channel).
they raced a ford gt and a lamborghini gallardo.

the ford gt smoked the lamborghini gallardo in 2 events and on the 3rd event, the lamborghini gallardo broke down. talking about failure! :icon17:

One of our (no longer active) members had a Ferrari 360. He bought it new and it broke down on the drive home from the dealership!

Yeah, it'd kind of ruin the whole experience of dropping 160k on a car! Haha.

I seen that episode and i'll admit, it made me proud to be a Mustang convert. Ford really did their homework with this one, it truly is a marvel of cost effective engineering, if I didnt buy my 5.0 less than a year ago and still had my Z, you better believe i'd have already ordered a Boss. I'm completely in love with that car, especially the black and red color scheme version.

repost.

m4a1mustang 02-04-2011 02:56 PM

Yeah I love the wild graphics. It's in-your-face ala the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. I like the silver with the bright red graphics.

mick 02-04-2011 02:58 PM

american cars are so cool nowadays. a few years ago, it wasn't so.

Red370 02-04-2011 02:58 PM

you know that ice/sleet/snow/tornado mother effer that just ripped through the country from west to east? i've been driving in that shyt lol

What show was it? Or does anybody have a link to where I could see that part?

mick 02-04-2011 06:16 PM

when the boss goes on sale, to ford enthusiasts, the gt500 is still the higher end car, correct?

Red__Zed 02-04-2011 06:22 PM

Man I want a mustang so bad every time I read about them.

Lemers 02-04-2011 06:27 PM

The Shelby will still have more out the door HP
