Off their points system, the Camaro would get bonus points off of having rear seating and a larger trunk. Thats about it.

The acceleration is identical, but the 370Z will out-handle the **** out of the Camaro...

frost 03-29-2009 09:14 PM

We could call this the "heavyweight bout"

BurntGauge 03-29-2009 09:19 PM

Why didnt they use the SRT8?

Probably because its ridiculously expensive in comparison to the tested Camaro and Mustang?

frost 03-29-2009 09:46 PM

That thing starts at like, what, $42K?

Yeah but it's on par w/the hp of the SS.

frost 03-29-2009 10:11 PM

It'd still get stomped more than likely - they are just too damn heavy.

so is a GT500... but the odds have to be stacked to the GM side ....

Driving one of these bloated beasts probably feels very similar to driving something like ...

How is it stacked if they are doin it "best bang for your buck" kinda of deal?

CrownR426 03-30-2009 03:25 PM

Come on guys, let's give these cars a little more respect!
My neighbor has the 09 dodge challenger r/t and it's very nice.
He told me that he would trade it in for the new Camaro in a heart beat though.
I didn't want to laugh infront of his face so I didn't.
The Camaro sure does look and sound good but that's just not enough for me.
But if I were to choose from the 3, it would probably be that Camaro ss [:

Asheth 03-30-2009 07:06 PM

Camaro SS = Pontiac G8 GXP w/ Bumble Bee Body kit. End of story.

But it wont matter because besides all of these tests and all the hype of the Camaro and the SS. I think the Mustang will continue as it always has to outsell the Camaro. Girls buys Mustangs and when the convertible comes even more will. Camaro scrapped there convertible plans so they have to case.

Honestly I wouldnt be suprised if GM isn't taking a big hit on the production of this car. Base Corvette engine with G8 underpinnings at $31k something is fishy there. G8 went for more then that if im not mistaken.

Ironically, Bumble Bee wasnt even a true Camaro :)

And as far as I saw, the new Camaro had 15000 pre-orders or something dumb like that. Crazy, if its true...

Furthermore, just because its in the Corvette doesnt mean its particularly expensive to produce - its a small block chevy for gods sake lol. They use the same or similar platform in TONS of cars!

Did anyone ROFL when he said "To my LEFT" at the start?

Correct. It was a GTO in the movie. Saleen made the body panels to make the GTO look like the Camaro. They did a fantastic job, but again, it was a GTO, not a Camaro. GM wouldn't let them use their test mules on the movie because they weren't fully working.

A couple months after the movie came out, GM had a couple of test mules roll out to the local big car meet ups here in Los Angeles to show off the car and answer questions. I showed up just after they'd got there, so I didn't get to see them park, but when the GM guys were leaving with the car, they had a hell of a time "prepping" it just to start the engine. :D

Yup thats true. Actually it hit 15,000 A MONTH AGO. At least GM will make some $$$$ off it.

Believe it or not, my dad wants the Camaro SS. I told him I want a 370Z he told me its just a children's toy.:shakes head:

Wait till i smoke his *** off

And crazy enough, it's the top dog SS models that are selling the most. Not the 6 bangers like you would expect. Poor economy and high fuel prices be damned!

my buddy paid like 46 for his sold it to carmax last week for 37K

it was an ok car not really my taste. we ran it at the 1/8th mile a few times it ran like a 8.5 with a 1.95 60ft

snaggeltooth 04-03-2009 12:11 PM

So one looks I would take the Challenger , but as far as a drive ability and usability I would go Mustang GT ...

frost 04-03-2009 06:53 PM

^ I'd wait for the GTs new engine, and then take it :D

for the extra money it will prob cost .. I think I will be happy with the 4.6... would rather have a Bullitt anyway ...

snaggeltooth 04-05-2009 07:16 PM

over on LS1.com they have posted the same vid.. But it appears that it is not well received there ... Sure alot of people love the Engine and the 1/4 mile times it can/should run..but the car not so much..kinda like the GTO ... I wonder if they will have the same fate ??

Endgame 04-05-2009 07:46 PM

I would still take a Stang...

It was a little bit harder to sell the GTO, the plain looks catered to a small crowd, mixed with the costs of shipping them over to the states. Still, if they had invested a little effort into some body changes, I think it would have turned around for them.

there is just one reason the Camaro died in 02 , no one was buying them.. And GM puts out the new Camaro in the worst of possible times ..

The enthusiasts were buying them, but the reason the stangs always outsell the f-bods (guess it's not f-bod anymore) is because stangs also sell to the regular joes and soccer moms of the world, something the f-bod twins never seemed to be able to capture.

so do you see the new one doing that ??:iagree:

frost 04-05-2009 10:06 PM

^ Negative :D
Just not something I see the "general public" buying. Everyone will like the looks, but that doesn't get most people to pull the trigger.

snaggeltooth 04-06-2009 05:39 PM

I can see gettting some great deals on a slightly used Challenger RT in a few years ...
