So I watched the vid and it looks like a number of factors went wrong, not least of which is the melodramatic Uncle Kracker song at the end. What do you guys think?

A. Night driving- depth perception will always be off/ features seen through car lights will always look a little two dimensional compared with daylight. The GTR driver is also probably locked in on the IX's brake lights throughout the run and not looking further down the road, and that'll d*ck with anybody's night vision.
B. Experience- the guy was only 20?? With a GTR? Going flat out? The times, they are a changin'. I had a NA '86 300zx at that age, definitely not enough power to overwhelm, and had been driving for 5 years at that point. Oh yeah, I also bought it myself without mommy and daddy's help, but if I go any farther on that tangent, I'll just come off as a jealous twit, so forget it.
C. Road familiarity- the EVO IX was fairly smooth throughout the run, which makes me think he knew not only HOW to drive but WHERE he was driving. In the video we see the GTR 'guess wrong' at the corners a number of times, the one that seals his fate is actually the penultimate corner in which he brakes deep and very late, allowing the IX to pull some serious lengths. Instead of taking little bites out of the distance, the GTR seems to want to make it up all at once, comes in way too hot and, well... we know the rest.

Jeez, fellas, I don't know. Part of me thinks the GTR driver got what he deserved, part of me is glad there wasn't a random car on the road going the other way, and part of me is sad that yet another fine piece of machinery is destined to be reduced to scrap. What's the over/under on number of GTRs that end up this way anyway??

You want to know a scary prospect? He might have even been able to buy that GT-R with his own money!

Seriously though, in the age of the internet, a lot is possible. Scary, I know. There was a guy (read: a**hole twit) in my dorm freshman year who made a killing on an internet game he made (I had heard of it but now I can't remember the name). He was paying his own tuition/housing/etc, had a new Mustang with some minor mods, and just put a preorder/down for the new 05 Mustang with no intention of selling the old (this was back in late 04). And boy did he make everyone know it when he walked into the room. It sucked that he was also in my advising group and I had to see him every week.

If I felt old/rich enough to even sit in a GT-R, let alone buy one, I sure as hell wouldn't have felt the need to street race like a moron in the dark to prove it.

It's like every time a dweeb in a civic with a hole in the exhaust passes my pony like a bat out of hell, I say to myself: 'go right ahead, I know I have 300 horses and 320 torques and don't feel the need to flaunt what I want people to think I have.'

Yeah, the above is pretty dramatized but you do have to learn to not give a crap when you drive a recognizable car with a pedigree. I'm curious if the 370Z would be a step up or down from what i deal with. Actually, I don't even know what a step up/down would be...

That video made me sick to my stomache. Im not even kidding i knew the crash was coming and i felt so bad for what was going to happen to that car.

I know i know, what about the kid, i have hard time feeling bad when he has a 80k car to drive around and i dont haha.

It was a lose/lose situation, lets say you beat the evo. Ok you won, every body predicted that, lets say you lose, man you suck your 80k lost to 30k car.

And i agree he was making alot of tire/breaking issues that the evo just didnt have, and he kept swerving near the edge all the time. every one has it right he went beyond his ablity to follow that evo.

:owned: the guy driving the GT-R should just stick with his video games!!!

That car is too much for him to handle!!!! What a waste!!!!

Ouch x 10.

Everyone has already said everything I was thinking, but I'll say something anyway

Erm...

...inexperienced/bad driver going too fast, loses control. Happens every minute of every day. If the camera hadn't been there, he'd probably have blamed 'the dog' that ran out in front of him.

:wtf2:

That Evo did so many double lane turns it's not even funny. The thing is, that at this particular road, it's nearly impossible to do that during the day, so usually nighttime is when all of the "drift king wannabes" come out to play.

If anyone is from Southern California, I think that this video took place at GMR. I'm not too familiar with that road to be certain. I've only been up there once and that very night I had a friend who did the same thing (crashed into a wall), but he was driving a less expensive car that's for sure.

I see this every ******* day!
How and why do stupidass people who can't drive get these beautiful machines?!
Wow... I'm 19 and I work so hard for everything that I have.
It really frustrates me knowing that some people don't know how hard it is to get things like that...
BUMMED OUT!

frost 03-30-2009 09:35 PM

MightyBobo 03-30-2009 09:51 PM

Wow, someone driving a car too fast for their own skills, imagine that!

I rofled.

Brazilbro 04-02-2009 01:06 AM

Thats what happens when you try to keep up with a evo in the curves..:ughdance: also u got 2 cars that look to be about the same power , but the evo 400 lb lighter and a better driver was no match
