Yet Another Corvette Thread.
Hey guys, I know this must be getting very repetitvie and annoying seeing all these other threads about different cars but this one is a little different.
After going back and forth between the corvette forum and here, reading, searching, and asking questions. I've come to the conclusion that a used corvette is the better buy in my situation. I hate to say it because I really like the 370z. From when it was just an idea till this date. At the same time though, I always loved the corvette since my brother had 3 C5 vettes.. I just never realized they could be had at this killer price so I never looked into it. Here's what I concluded: You can get an LS3 vette (LOW mileage) for around the same price as a brand new Z. LS2 for less than a 370z Vette is on another level. Its faster, handles just as well and if not better with the Z51 package. Looks very very sexy. The corvette doesn't seem as problematic, I've read that its a very reliable car where there has been rarely any major maintenance needed, just oil changes. The car responds very well to mods no matter which trim you get (LS2, LS3, or LS7 but thats a higher priced Z06). I love both cars very much.. Only advantage I see with the Z is rarity on the streets.. Oh, and that Syncro Rev Match.. Thats just effin cool. Unless Nissan comes out with something drastic for the 2012 Z like a "rev up" of some sort, I will be sold on the corvette. Can anyone give me some better reasons as to why I should stick to the Z? I do race with friends at the drag strip, we do go to twisties and I do participate in drift events with my G. |
No just get the vette and good bye! You will not be missed. :D
|
I too have been looking at used Vettes but honestly, if it's not a z06 then I don't want it. I'd rather have a new car that wasn't ragged on. I'd also want certain options and colors and finding the right used Corvette with the right combination at the right price is almost impossible.
Shouldn't this go in the other car section? |
Get the vette, since your set on it, and good luck.
I prefer the rarity than the common vette. imo |
Feel free to move where appropriate, sorry about that.
Thanks for the comments and that avatar is sick LOL. |

Vettes are old looking.
A Vette looks like a toy. The design has run it's course.

Having the same hard choice myself right now. I recently had a 09 370z touring sport manual until it was recently totaled. Now I'm looking to replace it. Having a hell of a time finding the exact color and combination of 370z I want and rather than ordering one and having to wait I'm exploring other options. Recently went a looked at an 08 Vette with low miles which would end up being 5-7k cheaper than getting another Z.
I'll say this, the Z's interior quality is far better than the Vette. Looks are subjective but most here would agree the Z is better. Cornering, the Z is far more precise and agile but the Vette seemed to stay a little more flat through the corners. Having in the past both auto-x my Z and a Vette the Z is the more natural car in the corners. That being said the Vette's LS3 was just awesome and the shifts of the tranny were just like butter; far better than the 370z. Now it's just a choice of a used faster but more commonly seen car vs. a slower, more unique, new car that I'll have to wait 3mo for. |
It's a nice car, what ever makes you happy.

I am still looking at both cars but a vette is far better for the money. I hope there are big changes for the 2012 Z |

Still, having had both a C6 and 370, I get a lot more satisfaction driving the Z than the vette. Its just more overall fun, even if it is a bit slower. |
Well there are no major changes are coming for the 2011 Z so just go ahead and get the vette
|
no change to the vette until 2013 either.
|
everyone ownes a vette . they are a dime a dozen or me to cars

Even if it were "ragged on", the vette is built to take it, which can't really be said for the Z. The LS motors are proven, and I have to say I was suprised at the factory brake ducting on the c6. It may not be a full blown track car, but I think it is more up to the task in stock form.

I almost got a vette before I got the z. but same factors, I would be buying a used one and would have to pick out of what is out there vs get what i want in a new z.
(white, ls3 with the f55 + HUD and glass top = hard to find vette) in the end whatever makes you happy. Seriously if someone on here can tell you something to not buy a vette, then your not really buying sold on it. Your trying to buy based on facts, figures etc, when really a car like these (vette, 370z) should be purchased based on the thrill you get when you drive either. |

I have had many Hot cars....never had any engine problems....none.... I just dont think that these 6 cylinder new cars hold up under extreme conditions as well as a vette does...just my opinion....and from what I read here.....people dont even keep their oil topped off....... I ran my new 240Z hard at high speed and had no problems....It was a great "TOP END" car. In 1965 I had a 1962 vette with a Roller Cam and and drove it hard....very hard.....kept it for years...even after I got the 427 IMHO the 370Z corners much better than any car unless you want to spend at least $50,000.00 more. |
awesome!

I've never owned a Vette but I've driven quite a few in moderate anger to get a feel for them. While the Corvette is a lot faster I'd take the neutral handling of the Z any day, the driver feedback is just so much better. But it depends what you are doing with it, if primarily you cruise and go to the drag strip then the Corvette is a great car. If you are doing track or auto-x then both are fun cars but the Z has better feel.
Here's a little story from this past Sunday. It was the last auto-x of the season, and my buddy with an 08 C6 was struggling all day. Half way through the day he had an ABS issue and retired his car, he spent the rest of the afternoon trying out other vehicles. After trying a few cars he jumped in mine, instantly he was 1.5 seconds faster having never even driven my car before, and for all I know he's never driven a Nissan. We went for another run, this time he was 3 seconds faster than his Vette (track conditions and times hadn't changed since the morning). You could argue that his ABS issue may have been affecting his morning performance, however his results were fairly typical of his normal standings up to that point. Some people can drive the Vette fast at auto-x and on track but you have to develop a bond with the car in order to do this. Not everyone does. |

If I want a car I'll drive my beater 94 Corolla. Thats my car. |
I think the 370Z is better build on the inside, but the Corvette is better built on the outside and regarding the driveline. I have YET to see a 370Z on a dealer show-room or lot that hasn't had the paint scratched, hood dented, or something like that. The paint on them is just crazy soft. If you get one, get some sort of protection for it.
What it all came down to me is I have always owned older cars. I am not "used to" NAV, A/C'ed seats, power this and that. The amenities in the 'vette suite me just fine. The "feel" of the car isn't as nice as the Z, but the Z offers dismal acceleration compared to the 'vette. I am never going to track the car, nor are there twisties where I live. Mainly, it's sweeing corners on on/off ramp loops and straightaways. For me, the fake suede inserts of the 370Z are not equivalent to the extra 175 horsepower of the 'vette and much stouter driveline. All that being said, if I lived where there were more twisties and the car was to be a daily, I would go with the 370Z. Regarding "I don't want just another..." Well, I don't care what other people are driving. It doesn't matter to me one bit if I am one of 25,000 other people out there or one of one. If I enjoy it, I enjoy it. I have only seen ONE! other G20 on the street since I bought mine. Does that make my G20 better than a 'vette because I see more 'vettes? Well, if someone will trade me, then hell yes it does! I am set on buying the 'vette. |

I totally understand....but if you lived where there were MOUNTAINS AND TWISTIES ...I bet you would buy the Z......To me there is just too much difference in the handling of the two.... |
