Does anyone see the Genesis Coupe as competition?!

just saw a couple youtube videos and reading some comments. Personally, I dont think its even close really, the 370z is just a better quality car period! IMO, the Genesis couldnt touch the Z's suspension, interior, exterior, or overall car performance the list goes on. The Genesis does have a engine that could be upgraded better than the Z if you're looking at numbers......but still.....its a Hyundai! That one word says it all for me but I would like to see others' opinions!

Brand name, price and performance (any car can be modded to suit..) aside..

I don't see the Genesis as competition. Two totally different type cars imo. The hyundai has more in common with G37's or any other type of sporty luxury cars.

Here's an old thread on it

I was seriously considering the Genesis Coupe before ordering my 370Z. I don't consider it competition while stock, but it sure will be modded. Those cars definitely have lots of potential and will surely be quick.

Not really, since it isn't considered a luxury coupe by any means.

Its hard to say what a true competitor would be, but lets just say the Genesis Coupe is a bargain compared to other 22-28k coupes out there.

I dont think it'll be competition. It's a great 1st effort but it still falls short.

The Genesis looks tw@t.

However, Hyundai are starting to press the right buttons and like Nissan a few years ago, if you can see beyond the badge, they're putting good products onto the market.

However, if you're comparing the two - no thanks - no competition.

Genesis Coupe

Length (in.) 182.3

G37

Length (in.) 183.1

370Z

Length (in.) 167.2

Notice the size difference? It's 15.1 inches LONGER.

It's like comparing a Miata to the RX8.

However, comparing the 2 seater sports car Hyundai has in the works to the 370Z is more of a right comparison.

Plus, its confirmed that the Genesis will get a power bump in the mid cycle refresh.

Competition for sales or performance? It will be cross-shopped, so it will definitely compete in the sales market.

Arcangel 03-11-2009 09:36 PM

Definitely be cross shopped although I'm not a fan ( think it looks like it got stepped on)
people who are shopping at the low end of the Z price spectrum will definitely look at it!

If you are considering an Altima Coupe or an Accord Coupe, then yes, there is reason to look at the Genesis Coupe.

LiquidZ 03-15-2009 12:46 PM

Not at all worried about the Genesis.

Exactly. I predict a quick HP update to the Altima Coupe by nissan will be the main reaction to the Genesis.
