lol.. I had a chance to sit in an Elise. To get out, you pretty much roll out of the car and end up on the ground. Truth be told, these types of cars have practicality at the bottom of the list. If anyone could afford this car, I doubt it will be the only car in the garage. Still an awesome example of the "what if" brought into reality.

oh i totally agree that practicality is out the window with cars like these (in general) but at the same time, i'd like to be able to get in and out of the car without having to fall in or out of it. also, having said that, the lotus exige S is one of THE BEST cars i've ever driven ever... it was like a way overpowered go cart with 10x the grip. i <3'd it!! but i'd never own one.

I've always been a fan of this car:

Sweet. I bet if you actually drove it though you'd be disappointed. Very few vintage sports cars stand the test of time when comparing performance and handling. Styling ... that's another matter.

Agreed, things have most certainly changed performance wise but the design is timeless.

totally agree. what we consider a hyper car now will likely be the peak of automotive excellence for the next 20 years or so. i don't see how, with the limitations of physics, that you can possibly get faster than cars like the bugatti super sports and others mentioned in this thread (the real hyper cars, not the joke posts). there is just simply a limit to what tires are capable of right now and with the new regulations on emissions and CAFE, hyper cars are going to get more and more rare.

on a side note: jeremy said on Top Gear last night that the 458 italia was one of the best ferrari's of all time and he liked it better than the F40, and that's saying a lot because he's claimed multiple times about his hard on for the famed F40. the 458 is not a hyper car but it would definitely be my choice in that price segment right now for a coupe. (convertible would be the lambo gallardo spyder)

Zaggeron 08-03-2010 08:06 AM

^^ The fact that the 458 is not a hypercar actually makes it more appealing to me. Still well out of reach, but a couple of good breaks and it might get a bit closer :)

Cmike2780 08-03-2010 09:09 AM

The 458 was only 1/10 of a second slower than the Enzo around the Top Gear track. Now imagine how much faster a Scuderia version or XX version will be.

Just kidding. I'm going to agree with MC and go for a Ferrari 599XX.

I'm amazed at some of the cars slower than the 370z on that list.

I want a Lola T7, sat in one while at Spa in Belgium and the car is just amazing to hear on the track with the V8. They made 4 newer versions in 04 for about 600,000 euros:ughdance:

HKYStormFront 08-04-2010 09:09 AM

oh my that's a sexy thing. not really a hyper car so much as a race car. is it street legal? what are the rest of the specs?

shaun66 08-04-2010 06:43 PM

Its not street legal unfortunately lol. Not sure about power output, but its a Chevy V8 smallblock. These were raced in the Can Am series around
Jackie Stewarts time.
