Chrysler Discontinues PT Cruiser

The Chrysler PT Cruiser has run its course. “Today, we learned that July 9 will mark the last day of production for the venerable Chrysler PT Cruiser,” writes Automobile Magazine. “With more than 1.3 million units sold, the PT Cruiser represented one of the first executions of a modern retro car for the masses.”

Due to its aging design and underpowered engine, the 2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser currently ranks near the bottom of the affordable compact wagons class. However, that wasn’t always the case. Top Speed reports: “When it was first launched, the PT Cruiser was a brilliant little car, unique in every sort of way. The car went on sale in 2000 during the American SUV craze. The retro design, like the New Beetle, made it a massive sales success. In fact, the car sold well beyond anything Chrysler could have imagined.”

kenchan 07-10-2010 12:08 PM

never liked the look of that thing, but hertz gave me a number of garbage cars from mazda3's to yaris to colbalt to corolla's amongst other kia and hyundais and the PT was the best feeling car overall with some fun atmosphere.

i didnt know they were still being built though... thought dealers were trying to rid their inventory from 2007. :D

Hold on... wasn't that car launched with an aging design and underpowered engine?

95% of the time when I see a PT Neon, it's a 50-70 year old woman with giant hair driving.

PapoZalsa 07-10-2010 07:42 PM

They should discontinued the Chevy HHR too.

An apology for reviving this thread that has been posted long time ago. Well, PT cruiser is quite a nice drive. however, the reason why Chrysler stopped the production of such vehicle is the complaints it got from drivers. besides, they're no longer receiving orders although there are still drives seen on the road up to the present. the major focus of the auto maker nowadays is to deliver not just quality but reliable and durable products to people. as such, they have got the idea of having cherokee and XJ as their main masterpieces.

bigaudiofanat 09-20-2011 06:48 AM

Thank god they will stop making those ugly cars.
