That is one gawdawful looking car. And what a stupid model name. Toyota hasn't impressed me lately. The only thing I like from them is the FJ.

kevr6 03-02-2010 08:14 PM

Fugly!!

LateralG'z 03-02-2010 08:33 PM

I think it looks alright, wonder about the power & weight and suspension design?

Power for the Toyota version is suppose to be around 250HP I believe.
Weight is suppose to be sub 3,000, but not sure on suspension yet.

LateralG'z 03-02-2010 08:39 PM

LateralG'z 03-02-2010 08:39 PM

I do not see how, the car is still in R&D.
Toyota has stated first arrival in the US is 2011 and even then the design is still not 100% set in stone yet.

Maybe a test unit? Though normally with test units they cover badges, zig/zag tape, etc.
You sure it was not a Gen coupe? Similar fast sloping hood with a short wheel base style.

QUOTE: we still don’t know a lot about the FT-86 concept. What we do know is that it will be light weight, with “racecar-like handling” and be powered by a 2.0-liter boxer four-cylinder engine from Subaru.

WOW...............that car is just as exciting as the Pontiac Solstice!

Is this from Toyota or a user photoshop?

phelan 03-05-2010 02:41 PM

uhhh i think it's an advertisement from toyota itself

some other ones:

apparently the interior is still ridiculously futuristic, so i'm curious to see how they execute that.

i still like it, but i LOVE the supra turbo sitting in back of everything...

A) 500,000 vehicles for the entire world
B) Only 120,000 for the US
C) The recall is them doing an early strike (unlike Toyota who waited till after)
D) The recall is minor and not causing deaths

BriinumsBo 03-06-2010 11:13 AM

thats a damn good looking Go Kart (assuming the comparison with audi TT is true(assuming the published curb length is right))

Those are Toyota released ft86 photos. I think the background (and of course the supra/celica/ae86) are computer graphics..

btw, i managed to calculate the FT-86 concept bolt pattern is 5x100m :D

PapoZalsa 03-26-2010 09:12 PM

My first new car was a 1986 Toyota Corolla SR5, loved that car.

I like the lines of the car FT-86, looks real nice, but the price and the power not so much!

Remember how everyone was super giddy for the youthful and affordable Toyota FT-86 sports coupe? It'll be just like that... except neither youthful nor affordable. At least it's still RWD.

Good job Toyota, this was your one car to prove to the automotive enthusiasts that you still cared. Now your blowing it.:shakes head:

BriinumsBo 04-22-2010 03:38 AM

i wouldnt take this serious. it really looks like a PR trick at Autocar.co.uk to gain publicity with keywords "FT-86 price" in title (most searched on google). also everyone links to them now. but there are no real facts, just guesses.

The winning factor this car is riding on is the sub 3,000 pound weight limit, 200HP sub 3,000 might be a nice combo at a cheap price.

Rx-8 weighs a tick over 3000 with 232 hp and isn't very fast...but of course the piston engine should be able to deliver more torque. I have a feeling performance of the FT-86 will be very similar to the MX-5.

j.arnaldo 04-24-2010 02:55 PM

...with or without the bugs??!!

Vegitto-kun 04-24-2010 03:17 PM

That thing is so mad sexy.

Honestly I would pick it over the 370
