2019 Audi TT RS Test Drive

So the time has come and I need to get a nice sporty daily driver that is AWD. My choices have come down to the BMW M240i xDrive, the Audi RS3 and Audi TTRS. I have test driven the M240i and RS3, but only the TT S up until yesterday.

The interior and looks of the thing are unbeatable, and it has significantly more room than the M240i. The 5 cylinder engine fills all the power gaps and significantly reduces the turbo lag felt in the TT S, while still wanting to precisely grip the pavement at all times. Getting to the speed limit is almost instantaneous from a start, and when you switch it to Comfort mode it turns into a luxury car. My broker is looking around for deals at the moment...

Don't think this one compromises much - good choice.

Is there a reason you want to stay in the C segment?
I know you're not a fan, but consider taking an Alfa Giulia TI Sport Q4 for a spin before you sign the deal. Might not be for you, but you'll never know if you do not try. :-D

Seen one in the wild, it certainly has to show and the go, good luck!

Solid choice! This past year at the Portland Auto Show I sat in one of these and actually really liked it. Like you point out, the interior is very nice and it also feels like a true driver car. No unnecessary buttons and what not inside, feels like you're in it just to drive. Would that black be the color you want to get it in?

That's a great looking Audi! I don't see many of those up here... Perhaps I should make my way down to Portland more often.

Beautiful car, but my dislike for sedans is very strong. Some day when I have responsibilities I may just consider it. The R3 is quite a performer, but I can't get over the extra doors.

I love how you can switch the drive modes without even moving your hands on the steering wheel. And that steering wheel is something else. Feels and sounds like a race car hot hatch.

Hopefully I can find one in the Daytona Gray, but if the price is right I wouldn't be opposed to black.

My biggest conundrum is deciding between the mag ride or the RS fixed suspension. Since this is a daily driver I am leaning towards the mag ride, but for the long term the fixed suspension may be the way to go. I love how the ride becomes all sophisticated when you switch it to comfort mode, which you lose most of that with the fixed suspension.

Even in Colorado where Audis are extremely popular you hardly ever see a TT RS, and when I do I definitely take notice. The 3rd generation are definitely sharp!

Yeah, I think that you are onto a winner here!

Let us know how the story ends and how you spec it.
Keenly interested.

looks nice and sexy, have fun with it if that is your choice

My broker was able to get a surprisingly good end-of-the-year deal, and while still expensive it looks like everything is a go to get this particular black one that I test drove. Black wasn't my first choice, but it would be a very close second and especially after seeing that they went black-on-black with the accents. I am having them throw on a clear bra and window tint so I should be driving it by the weekend.

Unfortunately I can't justify keeping the Z at this point. I am actually getting very sad and sentimental, but of course it isn't dying, and hopefully it will give a lot of joy to its new owner.

Stay tuned for some reviewing!

Nice ride, that's my wife's dream car. I think it will be hard to find a deal on it

Congrats, wife and I wanted Daytona gray as well but we went with glacier white metallic since it was there and we got a good deal. (And we like white sports cars).

You will love this car, it’s awesome. I don’t regret the mag ride, but it is easier to mod the fixed suspension.

Enjoy your new tt rs. :driving:

How reliable is the car? After seeing the new prices and used prices, we are debating between teh Cayman, the TTRS or the Performance Model 3 to replace the Z and her daily driver.

We’ve had ours for almost a year and a half (it’s an ‘18), and it’s been flawless, to be fair it isn’t driven too much as it’s a track car/toy.

Our previous ‘16 s3 we had for over two years and we drove the **** outta that car, it was a daily driver and a track car and it was flawless too. (Over 15k miles per year).

Sorry I can’t be more help but hopefully our experience helps ease your mind regarding reliability issues.

(As well as the OPs mind, sorry for the thread jack).

Looks like I got my big Christmas present:

Oh, I am fine with it as it is a great question that also interests me :)

They had two black ones on at the same dealership, so I think I got lucky that they apparently wanted to get one sold before the end of the year.

Thanks! I am just picked it up a couple days ago and already am loving it. I think the mag ride makes sense as this is my daily driver. I loved driving the Z on an open road, but it was getting brutal whenever I needed to face the increasingly terrible Denver traffic.

cossie1600 01-09-2020 04:08 AM

Very nice ride, thanks for sharing. I have to prep the Z for sale and possibly get rid of one of my leased car as I just have too many. I have the Model 3 Performance 1st, Cayman S 2nd and TT 3rd. I think my wife likes the TT the most, but financially it makes the most sense with the Tesla. The earliest I think will happen is now in March.
