So it looks like the problem is real now......

too bad, now that the prices have come down I was considering getting one......but not now. Looks like the GolF R is still good though, as the Subaru and its piston rings and gasket issues from lean conditions are still problematic as well.

That's mighty embarrassing (if the suppositions are true).

Actually, upon reflection and regardless of the cause that is very embarrassing for Ford. A parts mixup might be the best answer.

At one point i was also considering getting an RS, but after seeing this, no thanks

The head gasket issue is a big problem for ford. Sales are dropping because of it. They won't do a recall or anything like that. They are waiting until the engine lets go to fix it. Suppose to be a small number of cars effected. Ford never did anything for the Raturds with the bent frames.

This sounds like the Vettes that had the metals pieces left over from machining still in the oil passages that never got washed out. That cost chevy some bucks on replacement engines. That's why they came out with the 500 mile first oil change.

Not sure it’s just a head gasket issue. There is also talk about cracked blocks. Safe to say that Ford dropped the ball on this one. The Mustang 2.3 ecoboost engine (slightly different) is also proving to be unreliable for a multitude of other issues.

The dry sump first oil change is 500 miles due to seals leaching causing the oil to foam. Not only did they do that, they rev limited the engine to 4500 rpm's until after 500 miles for break in. After 500 miles, the rev's are limited until the car water temp warms up. They have a secondary redline on the tach that displays this.

While having my 2014 Focus serviced at Ford for a transmission problem. The service advisor quietly looked left then to his right and said I should "get rid of it and take my losses while i still can". He told me that a fix does not exist for the issues these cars have and Ford will never officially acknowledge the problem.

This car was only a year old with 12000 miles and worth half of new.

The open deck design seems to be a big problem, and there is talk about using bad metal is the castings as well with bad block and head machining too. People that paid 4k or or more these junk engines must feel pretty dumb now. For the 50K they paid, for the first batch of Focus's RS they could have got a 911 C4S...ummm like I did. It runs all day at high RPM and never a problem.

Chevy didn't waste anytime fixing their process on block machining and cleaning. Got to hand them that.

Interesting and educational writeup here

The part that kills it for me is the difficulty in reaching the front suspension top mount from the engine bay, quite ridoculous one has to take apart all that plastic pieces to do simple adjustments on aftermarket adjustable shocks.
