Went to Drive a 911 today DID NOT
2008, less miles than the Z, but the rubber trim around the rear side windows was cracked, and the front turn or park lamp were frosted over, you could not see the bulbs. Paint looked better than the Z but I did not even look inside, just walked away.

Lol.

i just came over from 06 997,,nice car but very pricey to maintain/fix. im loving the Z and loving the 3yr warranty
|
Z is the poor man's Porsche. Build it up and dog every Porsche you run into. Thats what I like doing, but I like Porsche, so BMW and Audi get most of my dogging.

if you've driven even a cayman u'd agree with me that the Z is nothing like a porsche.

But that's why the Porsche is at least 30k more, even a Cayman. Way more running cost, also. For extra 30k you can have a Z built up to match those Porsches pretty well. Just my .02 Sent from my SM-G860P using Tapatalk |

The things I would do for a GT4... |
i suppose if you just took the RWD and 2 seater portion at the near power range, i suppose it could be considered similar.. but dat would be a general public opinion.. not a car guy's comment.

So you called it crap and did not drive it because of simple cosmetic items? That's stupid. I had a modded Nismo with a V in between and have now a 911 C4S, the Z is not a Porsche, its a fun lower cost alternative, but that's it. Any car can get crappy if its not maintained. The Z does not drive at all like the 911 and never will no matter how much money you throw at it.

Nice topic; discussed many times I am sure. Porsche is better engineered off the line but I have to agree that with a few mods and you are pretty close to a non aspirated 911. Look at the specs between the two...nearly identical and for $60k less YUUUUUUP. Not to mention maintenance costs. So yes a poor man...in some cases. I like taking the JDM underdog and turning the wrench here and there to upset German inginuity! I do admit, it would be nice to have a Porshce (esp. the GT2 or 918 Spider; oops apples/oranges) but I am quite happy with my 370. Besides I have fun discussing this topic with my brother-in-law who owns the 911. I think that if I wanted to spend the money it would be on a NISMO GTR anyways...

I only drive cars that I may buy. I would not buy this one. There will be another, I hope. The one I wanted to drive last week was sold before I could get to it, 2009 911 vert "S" I'll wait... I am looking for the next car when someone without insurance crashes into me. That is how all our cars go away. |
Id get a used e46 M3 or a new M4 over the Porsche.

i just traded my 06 997 C4 for a 370Z sport..got tired of the Porsche and needed a change....tired of bumpy ride, parts/service are $$$$..Loving the Z even if it isnt as "refined", seems as fast too me,,i dont need all the doodads on the Por, i never used most of them anyway..Im happy,,been there, done that..
save ur $$ and enjoy the Z:icon17: |
Nice thread, would click again

I just got a V coupe. The C4S was fun and nice, but I wanted POWER, so I traded it last Friday and got a V coupe with six speed and Recaro seats. In a few short days that Ive had it, I had to lay the smackdown on various Audis, BMWs and a few Porsches. For 1200 dollars I can easily add 100 hp and 100 pounds of torque pretty easily with a pulley, tune, and intake. But fir now I'll leave it alone. I can kill most anything out there as is.
