No way, man. The M4 is huge compared to the M3s of old. The M2 is practically the new M3.

Can't deny that, but I still like the M4 better, LOL.

I remember that article, it is a good read!

I've been pretty impressed with the N55 (and N54) equipped BMWs. You can kind of build your own little M car depending on how you mod it, as highlighted by that Alpina.

After owning the M235i now for 2+years its amazing how much fun, pure driving fun this car is. Plenty o'power for that morning Autobahn run, nice brakes and great torque. Daily driving is fun!

The M2 to me will be the best M car. The 4 is a boat. Its huge and to be honest, as that article points out the value on the marginal difference in performance compared to others is not great at all. Size gets me down about it, its just too big and lacks the toss'ability an Mcar should provide.

The M2 is on the radar now. I wont consider the 4 and will not bother testing it. An engaging drive is never about just power! :) I should be able to M2 test in March if things go well according to my dealer here.

I agree that the M2 will be the best "Driver's M" car. I do like the M4 a lot as a grand tourer. I'd actually take a new Camaro SS over the M4... it's more fun to drive.

Continuing with the topic of BMW, my wife and I are considering buying an E70 X5 35i. Either a Sport Activity or M-Sport variant. If we do, I'm probably going to sell/trade my Z for it and take over our 2013 335i M-Sport. I'm in need of a car that is a bit more polished and practical anyway (new job, new lifestyle,) so I think it makes sense. If we go that route, I'm definitely adding Bilstein PSS10s, and maybe a JB Stage 1 for a little bit of extra power.

335M-Sport is a nice way to start the day!!

2016 BMW M2 | car review @ Top Speed

Another full overview here of the M2. Interesting commentary about weight savings.

brucelidat 01-03-2016 05:29 PM

when the new q60 coupe comes out, I might test drive the m2 as well and see how I they stack up. Looking for fun to drive, sporty, bit more refined with less NVH and a semi-usable (at least throw some people back the for an hour) back seat. M4 is a bit more $$$ then I want to spend. I'm hoping I like the Infiniti since I am not really a German ca rguy and BMWs are like Hondas and Toyotas where I live. At least a m2 would be a bit unique compared tot he the tons of 3/4s (ms as well) rolling around here.

I'm leaning towards the M2. While I like the new Q60 it's disappointing they got rid of the MT and the AT seems like a carry over. Another unknown is its weight. I like the Q60, but so far I know for sure the M2 is light, 0-60 is blazing fast at 4.1s w/DCT and it comes nearly fully equipped. I was hoping they would give us some figures on the Q60 when it debut so we can compare. I do however think the interior of the Q60 blows the socks off the M2.

Depends what you consider light. A lot of people bash the Z for being heavy, but the m2 isn't any lighter and with the DCT, it's going to be close to 3500lbs. I expect the q60 to be somewhere int he 3600 range for weight but we will see. That weight range will put it in the m4 ballpark. Hopefully, it doesn't go Merc/Lexus weight ie. really fat. The m2 is a smaller car on a smaller platform so it will def be lighter. I expect ti to be cost more than the q60 as well when optioned. If they want to sell the q60, the 400 hp version needs to not be more than the low 50s.
