I feel like the guy behind the camera is stroking it the whole time to this girl going over the specs and features of the car.........but not sure if to her or the car......:wtf2: |
The M2 was quicker around Willow Springs than the M4 by 2/10.

This is why I can't own a bimmer. There's a vid in the BMW forum about the m2 drag racing an a45. M2 lost by 1/100th of a second. And these fools are angry n overemotional.

oooooo silly bimmer boys. I'd take it the M2 over the benz. I literally sat at cars and coffee for about 20 minutes solid looking at a white M2 this past weekend. I dig it. |
Im really digging this M2. Im not a bimmer fan at all, actually I dislike ALL of them except this one and the M5. Only 2 I ever liked. Well that and the Z4M Coupe, Z3M coupe and E46 M3. But thats it. lol

Well the wife test drove the M2 again and a few other cars and she ended up with a Lexus RC 200T F sport , she loved the look and the extra MPG with small motor

I am in love with the interior. It's a nice place but... it's all show, no go.Even the RCF it's so bloated it just doesn't move like a thrilling car. |
I've learned from my mistakes, the first time I bought her a car I liked
She never drove it and I lost money just to sell it , after that I let her pick whatever she likes Happy Wife....happy life. :roflpuke2: |

M2 Test Drive
I have my name on a list and put a $1k deposit on a M2 over 5 months ago. I finally got to test drive one today and I believe the hype is real. While I wasn't able to really push it, the few hard acceleration spurts and quick turns, convinced me to leave my deposit and patiently wait my turn to order one.
As compared to the M235i that I test drove months earlier, the M2 offers better steering feel, is quicker, does not roll like the 235 and has very strong brakes. The demo M2 had their performance exhaust on, which made it sound excellent. However I'm not going to order mine with it, as it's pricey and doesn't offer any performance gains other than sound. So I'll wait for the aftermarket. Unfortunately the demo came with a DCT and I'm going to order mine with a 6mt, but the DCT was impressive and upshifted very quickly with the paddles and rev matched perfectly on the downshifts. IMO the BMW engineers did a great job of giving this car a soul, very much like the Z. The M235i can be a very nice DD as it's quiet & smooth, but these qualities also creates isolation from the road, plus the lack of steering feel, made it to uninvolving for me. While my wait time for the M2 is unknown, it could be a year, give or take a few months. I'm not in any rush to change, as my 370Z is a very capable car versus the M2. IMO the M2 is the better overall car here, but it better be, it's 8 years newer and costs $20k more than a Sport Z. A couple of things I can definitely say after this test drive. 1) The Z still maintains better steering feel. 2) The Z is still a hell of a bargain as a sports car. |
Very interesting inter-bimmer comparo.
I'd like to see it compared against a Chevy camaro SS or even the v6 1LE 228i, M235i, or M2: What's the Best BMW Coupe You Can Buy Today? |

The M4 is lagging behind all its competitors except the Lexus rcf.
|
I had to teach two of them recently that a modded CTSV is a bit more than they expected to run into.
|
So I finally got to see a M2 in person (I am not the person that goes to Cars and Coffee). It is small and bulbous, plus I am getting so sick of BMW blue. I am disappointed, but relieved that a BMW will never be in my future.
I am in a small minority because when I went to the track the other day the BMWs seemed to be out of place amongst the cool Miatas, Corvettes, Zs and Porsches. It's like a group of real estate agents took a wrong turn some where. I guess I don't get the allure... |
Saw one at the dealership. It just seems to be badly proportioned and looks awkward to me. The M4 is not my personal favorite, but it looks better than the M2 I think.
|
This car has been out since late February/Early March. We're in August and not one review against any competitors. It's funny how they put the Z against anything in these trumped up awkward comparo's. But this M2 has only been compared to its predecessor.
I was hoping to see it against the F type S, The camaro v6 &ss as well as the mustang ecoboost >. The Porsche Cayman and 911 carrera. These are cars the Z has faced while not even being a close competitor in terms of car type. So I think the BMW should be subject to the same scrutiny. I think BMW is protecting the M2 from negative criticism. |
I think my interest in BMWs and Audis is dead. The only European made car I think I would ever consider would either be a Mercedes Benz or a Porsche. Everything else either seems too unreliable, boring or overhyped.

The M2 has brought back a playfullness to the brand that has been lacking for some time, many reviewers attest to that, and is well reviewed. Its also sold in a way to not cannibalize its big brother too much (notice there really are not many options for example) and that's not a bad thing per se. I do wish we got a 4 door in the US as I prefer the 4 door styling as more subdued (I own an E90 335d, quite stealth :) Steering feel is subjective but panned universally on newer BMWs, the M2 seems to get it back to something fun, engine note works great vs the flat F80 sounds. Seems like they did a lot of good things with the car. - b |

What you can't sacrifice in sports cars. HANDLING Steering feel Lateral grip Ample power Lighter weight (under 3500lbs) Low center of gravity. None of these are subjective. Not even a little bit. If you're missing one? You don't have a true sports car. PERIOD. I'm looking for a true sports car. |

As with majority of Americans, cars are getting bigger and fatter every generation. The M2 is basically the size of the E46 M3 which is my favorite M car to date. I never liked the one series, it looks like a retarded 3 series (especially the first gen with the giant headlights) but I'm liking the M2.

Does anyone know how Nissan measures curb weight? Sport Z w/manual trans is listed on Nissan at 3,344 lbs. A M2 w/manual trans is listed by BMW at 3,450 lbs, however they use European car weighting, which includes 90% full tank and 165 lbs for driver & luggage. This would bring the M2 down to 3,285 lbs, with a 90% full tank only.

I typed a detailed comparison between the M2 and our 370Z as I picked up a new M2 in Munich and drove it for 9 days and 1,100 miles. But I guess it took me too long to type and I couldn't post it. So here's the short version. 6mt vs 6mt.
Power/acceleration, goes to M2. Clutch, M2 by a lot. Shifter, 370 by quite a bit, M2 feels a little rubbery. Handling, M2 due to a more balanced feel. Probably due to 370Z being more front heavy, 55% vs 52%. Both hug the turns very well and M2 has very little body roll vs their M235i. Comparable to the Z. Road noise, much less in the M2 but it's no luxo cruiser and gives you enough road noise for good feedback. And I have dynomatted my hatch & doors on my Z. Steering feel, 370Z wins, can't beat hydraulic but the M2 is very good for electric and I can definitely live with it. Unknown, I know you maybe considering an M2. Definitely get a test drive, it's overall the better car but I know you're a stickler for steering feel. Any other questions please post and I'll do my best to answer. |
Also, stock exhaust on the M2 is excellent. Equal to my Z with axel back exhaust. M2 farts and gurgles on deceleration, while Z is smooth either way. Just depends on what you prefer, for me, I like both.
