Winter Beater
1997 Toyota Corolla
What do you guys think? I talked him down to $1,300. I might pick it up on Wednesday night.. for 200k miles and that price I feel like it's a steal. The guy says there is nothing wrong with it, and I know toyota's run forever. Does anyone know of anything to look out for? It needs to last all the way through a brutal Minnesota winter. Thanks! |
It is like getting any other used car with 20K miles on it. Solid.
|
It's craigslist...that said, I would get it checked out by a mechanic before handing any $ over.
|
The price is high for something like that, IMO. On Sunday, I found a clean '99 Bonneville SSE with roughly the same mileage for $599. It was gone although I sent an inquiry within 45 minutes of the ad placement in CL.

I bought a 2001 infiniti i30 almost 3 years ago my daily driver and winter beater for 1300 in craigslist had 170k when I bought it has over 210k now and runs like a champ, great in snow.

i have a 12 honda fit. paid 19k cash otd put about 2k of mods on it. it does fine for me.

Picked up a little 2003 5 speed Mazda Protege. I am all set for winter now!

I got winter tires for my Z, this will be the 6th winter with it. no problems.

What the hell is winter:)

That was only 3 inches. It only takes about 1/2 inch to make a Z with stock tires undriveable, and three inches is more than enough to make it zero fun to drive. http://theconservativetreehouse.file.../atlanta-1.jpg |
My winter beater. It comes out of the storage garage and the Z goes in at the first snowflake.

When I hear beater, I don't picture a brand new pickup truck worth more than the Z. |

My winter vehicle. :D

I bought this 2007 Silverado Classic at auction for $4100. 4.8l 2WD 144k miles. I've already towed the Z with it on an open trailer and it did pretty good.

I'd be scared to drive a 1997 Corolla in the winter. I'm sure it's crazy reliable, but cars today are much heavier and fatter than in 1997. I'd be more worried about it getting hit and crushing like a tin can.
I used to have an '03 Camry V6 that I drove around in the winters. I threw Blizzaks on it and it was a beast. |
yah, safety system has come along way since 1997... might be good to wear a helmet. lol
