2020 Mazda RX9?

If Mazda releases this I may turn to the darkside of rotary engines again, this is the best spy photo of the next gen rx7:yum:

The wankel engine is deader than dead, and Mazda has some serious financial issues to address before putting more time and energy into a marginally profitable sports car. Still it's fun to speculate.

Never gonna happen. And even if it does it'll be typical Mazda. "Fun car, just needs another 50 or 60hp."

The FD was perfect in power output to weight in turbo guise. Would love to be in an Rx again. But the rear half of this concept/rendering screams dull. I am skeptical as they been talking about Rx 9 since 2010 for 2015. Now it's 2015 and they're talking 2020. Just do it and stop talking shyt!!!

And my *lawn mower* would still have more torque than that ...

To refresh your mind, Mazda is the only Japanese car company to win the legendary 24 hours of Lemans back in 1991 with the 787B in which Mazda celebrated with the release of 1993 RX7(FD3S). The release of this car was way ahead of its time with a perfect weight balance 50/50 and only 2800lbs with 255bhp. I hope Mazda works out the kinks on the next rotary engine. With the help of an electric motor in conjunction with the rotary it will have potential.

:iagree:

Between the bunch. It looked most like a Ferrari or an exotic, down to the styling and build quality. The FD was a modern marvel IMHO. Being that Honda had the NSX with about the same power and a very slight advantage in capability. The Mazda was the best bang for buck. The Z32 had more power but weighed 800/900lbs more as well

Pictures of my FD3S before I sold it was in numerous magazines including Mazda's own website back in 2004. Car was a beast 500rwhp at the dyno at 20pounds boost.

Any "rx" vehicle speculation is cool in my book :) rx= rotary experimental.

Timeless! I'd have find and scan my pics!!! I would love to find one in good condition with reasonable miles and repurchase.

By 2020, that Rx9 better be producing 600HP+ to keep up with competition. LOL

Hmm.

Well, if the Bimmer/Supra is really a go, then it will be up against that and the next gen Z, so something along the lines is possible...
