Laguna Seca GT2 vs Vette

you guys should watch this

YouTube - Exciting GT2 finish at Laguna Seca

that was one heck of a race

smurfblu13 10-26-2009 12:13 AM

watched that whole 10 minutes, that was awesome

NewlyIMPORTed 10-26-2009 12:13 AM

dang i mean you gotta support american cars but porsches are just amazing the corvette would catch up on the main stretch every time but the porsche can drive into a corner so much harder though break at the end

blue660r01 10-26-2009 12:34 AM

hahahahahahahahahaha

AK370Z 10-26-2009 12:45 AM

wow.. what a race! TWO

smurfblu13 10-26-2009 01:11 AM

I wanted to see the pit fight/aftermath..... oh well lol

travisjb 10-26-2009 01:15 AM

Thanks OP! Great racing up until the end... either the corvette did a 'dirty push' and got what he deserved or the porsche over braked in order to get a bigger over-brake from the vette and then avoid being overtaken on the straight... not really sure which, but regardless was a hell of a race...

Please tell me why anyone would watch nascar when they can see this kind of action?!

Kones 10-26-2009 01:18 AM

I was at that race . . . good stuff

lol same here.

Watching the race, the corvette is the obvious faster car but the porsche driver had a great strategy IMO. You can tell that the corvette got frustrated (for example turning on his high beam) and thought he could pull off that stunt. Sucks his car got totalled. Hope he's ok though

Because that stuff happens every single lap in NASCAR.

Seriously, though, I love it all. I'm not a douchebag elitist motorsport fan like a lot of people are. *cough* f1 snobs *cough*

Lol, vette guy got OWNED! He deserves it for driving so dirty, blinding porsche guy with his highbeam, cutting the corner using the pit exit, and finally trying to spin out the porsche on the last corner of the race.

MeetJoeAsian 10-26-2009 11:56 PM

at 5:12, the ceramic rotors of both cars glowed bright orange...

B1nks 10-27-2009 12:33 AM

Damn I wish I had the speed channel. THAT was awesome ! I was dead tired and about to pass out for the night but am now wide awake ! Good post OP.

molamann 10-27-2009 12:54 AM

Brb, I'm gonna go add Speed channel in my favorites.

schrute 10-27-2009 01:31 AM

That was racing! I enjoyed the whole 10 minutes and the end was awesome. Looks to me like the vette got what he deserved trying to steal it at the end.

Nice post OP.

mattkim85 10-27-2009 07:25 PM

glad you guys enjoyed it

Brazilbro 10-27-2009 10:06 PM

the porsche lead him into the wall.. he could have straightened out and had a drag race to the finish but he knew he would lose

well, before he "leads him into the wall" he was pushed by the corvette on purpose, making him lose traction and therefore would have obviously lost if he did a drag race to the finish.

LiquidZ 10-28-2009 06:59 AM

Damn! I was cheering for the Vette.

snotrocket 10-28-2009 04:06 PM

the vette cheated twice. using the pit lane then hitting him at the end. sucks he wrecked but i dont blame the porsche for doing that.

shabarivas 10-28-2009 04:13 PM

all things go at love and war... and racing

Utilizing the pit lane was deemed legal wasn't it?

shabarivas 10-28-2009 06:03 PM

Its not cheating technically - but ... its the same as you just driving through the grass instead of running through 5 S-Turns...

molamann 10-28-2009 06:09 PM

^Then what stop drivers from doing that at every event?

Because you see what happened, the officials ruled he had to let the GT2 pass.

they made him give up the position so i guess he broke some rule.

MightyBobo 10-31-2009 05:43 AM

Lol, you guys trashing on the Vette are cracking me up...

In the end, BOTH drivers were penalized. To quote my friend who avidly follows the sport:

Quote:

Actually, both drivers are on probation, suspended, or both (can't recall) for the first two races next year.

Yes, the Vette was clearly faster. Once he got around (illegally, by using the pit out lane), he pulled quite easily on Jorg. Jorg did drive a fantastic defensive race, until the very end, though. Epic. Too bad he ruined it on the last straight.
As for the vette bumping the Porsche at the end...call it dirty all you want, but if you were the faster car constantly being cut off by an obviously slower car for quite a while, you might not give a crap twords the end, either lol. I'm pretty sure spinning him out at low speed, or making him briefly lose traction isn't nearly as bad as purposefully trying to push another car into a wall. And yes, that's exactly what he did.

not giving a crap towards the end, doesnt give him a right to cheat.

if the vette was a faster car then it should have won fair and square without having to use the pit lane or bumping into him. Like you guys always say, it was a drivers race.

I was hoping to see the fight too!

That race was a great watch! Loved every minute of it:happydance:

I was hoping the Vette would pull it out in the end but oh well. That bump on the Porsche didn't look bad but the Porsche running the car towards the wall and then pulling what appeared to be a pit maneuver was flat out dirty.

Like others have said, the Porsche driver may have overbrake-d on purpose, just to cause that in the first place. But if you guys get angry at this, go watch NASCAR - a LOT more **** gets by in that joke of a sport IMHO.

Are you saying its kosher for someone to just constantly cut off a slower car? What if it was a whole field of slower cars?

In the end, both drivers were wrong, but the Porsche driver is no angel himself like everyone wants to make him seem :)

zfokaiz 11-01-2009 07:25 PM

awesome race. bumping comes with racing, so do crashes. The vette was faster but that was a "drivers race"

travisjb 11-01-2009 08:40 PM

everyone remember to leave a rep for the OP ? i just did! :)

Constant left turns are boring.

I'm a fan of F1 and would rather watch a road course with much more automotive history than what NASCAR has to offer.

I'm not an elitist, but stock car racing is boring IMHO.
