The S4 is a nice car, but I have found that its performance is marginally better than the others I'm looking at for the extra money it costs to get into one.

That, and I'm not the biggest fan of German "reliability". I have experienced enough of that and I'd rather stick with a Japanese vehicle.

Well... it is done. 2015 Infiniti Q50S.

Pics to come.

cool. my friend has the Q50S. he seems to like it a lot.

BlackZeda 08-25-2015 11:45 AM

It is a really good looking car

Nice choice. The sports have the new electronic steering concept, right? How are you liking it?

RicerX 08-27-2015 09:27 AM

Mine specifically does not have Direct Adaptive Steering, which I found to be more enjoyable than the steer-by-wire version I test drove. I stuck with the electronically assisted hydraulic steering rack.

My first quick impressions with it -

The stock Dunlop run-flats SUCK. (I couldn't source a car with the Z wheels, which are basically four fronts from the 2013+ Z Rays Sport Package with staggered tire sizes - 19x10s +30 poke too much on the rear of the Q50, which is likely due to drivetrain layout to accommodate an AWD option) The first thing I'm doing is at least swapping some S04s onto the stock wheels, or just finding four sport package fronts from one of you guys here in the classifieds and going that route.

The 7AT is a lot of fun for this car, especially when Sport mode is selected and you use the paddles. I can see why the argument continues on this forum with the Z auto vs manual guys.

This car is big.

I miss my Z.

BUT HOLY CRAP I have a huge trunk, two cupholders in the center console, a SUNROOF (!)... the door handle is motion sensitive for unlock commands (you simply reach behind like you're going to open the door and it unlocks without you pushing any buttons or anything - just the gesture itself does it - this can be adjusted inside the car on the InTouch display if you'd rather use the buttons).

This car is tail happy, and I attribute that to the lack of LSD (unlike many previously thought, the Q50 sport package is devoid of even a viscuous limited slip), so I am going to investigate my options here. It may be as simple as the car sharing the exact same stock open diff on a base automatic Z and be going through Z1 for a Quaife.

I wish my brake calipers were red. That would look sick on the white with some blacked out chrome and blacked out wheels. I will also look into this.

The Bose Centerpoint Surround is fantastic.

Coming from the Z I can see how you think it's big, but once you get the baby stuff in there it won't feel so big any more! Just kidding, I think the Q is good size. Small enough to still feel sporty, but big enough for 'stuff'.

Glad to see Nissan finally changed the smart key to unlock via touch vs the button. Toyota has been this way for years and I much prefer it.

b15 08-27-2015 10:29 AM

I guess I can't really call it the 'Q' like we used to say the 'G'. Stupid Infiniti names.

I plan on getting another Z to play around with one day, but this really is a great car for the meantime. I'm enjoying it more and more every time I drive it.

There's a decent amount of aftermarket for this thing as well. Japan loves this thing, so Blitz and Impul have really gotten behind it. There are some crazy body kits, but the only thing I'm really interested in is a couple bolt-ons, maybe coilovers, and some good wheels and tires. The rest is just too nice to mess with.

Magic Bus 08-27-2015 07:24 PM

Ricer, you gotta change your name to CruiserX ;)

Congrats on the new ride

I'll bet. I'm a huge fan of sleek sport sedans (subtle lip/drop/nice wheels). I like to keep them clean and simple. What color is yours?

I took the opposite approach as you though. We're expecting our first in March '16 and I plan on keeping the Z since it's paid off and bought an Acura TL (preowned) instead. We'll see how next year plays out. If the Z is literally just sitting because I don't have time, I may sell it then and reuse the funds elsewhere.

Hey RicerX,

I actually just sold back an evo x to a car dealer here in Washington, PA. Bit far, I know, but they were just going to auction it because they don't know what it is worth (even though you already bought something)

I've been looking for an excuse to run a square set up lol ... but I've got the older Rays (not sure how that would look on yours). Also, the fronts are definitely showing some wear as well as rash on a couple. That just means I could cut you a deal and you could get them refinished ;)

Glad you are enjoying your Q50 :driving:

Congrats dude! You're due a month after we are!

If my Z was paid off, I would have taken that route I believe. I wrestled with it though, because even if it was paid off, the car would've sat for the better part of the next couple of years. I almost leased an Altima and kept the Z, but I just couldn't justify the added expense to keep my more expensive toy in the garage at this point in life. I have a house purchase coming in the next year or two as well, so I was trying to think bigger picture with this whole thing. It was brutal for me, and I'm glad it is done and I don't have to think about it anymore. haha

The other part was that, even when the kiddo isn't in a car seat, I can't fit my whole family in the car for fun cruises, which means maybe a used GT-R or one of the new Q60 coupes will be what comes after the Q50. Momma's car is a Rogue, so we have plenty of "family car" around for the big trips and such, but our "date/fun" car for me really just needs to be a 2+2 coupe at minimum for what we like to do.
