Hyundai working on twin-turbo, 365hp V6

Hyundai working on twin-turbo, 365-horsepower V6

Pretty cooling looking concept. Looks kinda Z-like with Z-like stats. Hopefully Nissan has something in the works that can crush it.

USAFControl 02-24-2015 09:30 PM

It wouldn't take much to beat those numbers. I can't believe a twin turbo V6 would only get 30 HP more than a N/A 370z engine. Something seems a little fishy...

All turbo cars are like this. They detune the car for better fuel mileage, lower temperatures, less wear and more longevity. Remeber the 99-02 Audi S4? 250hp twin turbo 2.7 liter v6 which magically has 330hp after a simple ECU tune. Add downpipes and exhaust and you're at 360hp.

Firebase99 02-25-2015 07:32 AM

Its in the 3.3L Twin Turbo mule. Rumor mill has the new Coupe being AWD with 420hp/390Tq. We hope. Id like a serious competitor to the Z35.

365 lol
It's 395 man.
Over 2 years old news too

Tick64 03-08-2015 04:12 PM

News over 2 years old? I believe the concept image posted above by Lava is a "new leaked" image, according to The Korean Car Blog 24Feb/2015. Yes, it sound like they have had the engine for awhile, but I don't believe it's been put into mass production yet. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Firebase99 03-08-2015 04:32 PM

There's more news, recent, showing the mule, with an obvious inter cooler. Prob doing away with my 3.8 going to 3.3 turbo twin scroll, maybe AWD, 400+ hp.

I prefer a Z35. Better quality is guaranteed. But I respect Hyundais price per HP ratio and there's plenty of fun to be had in the genny. I'm a fan... Just not ready to plunge.

Here we go....

Exclusive: New Hyundai Genesis Coupe Surpass 400hp Mark - The Korean Car Blog

"When Hyundai Motor America’s CEO was interviewed a few days ago during the New York AutoShow he said: “This all-new engine would arrive on the Genesis sedan in 2017 or 2018 and have power in the ballpark of the company’s 420-hp, 5.0-liter Tau V-8 but weigh far less.”

Coincidentally our source mention this engine will be ready for production in late 2017."

UNKNOWN_370 04-16-2015 12:41 PM

Hyundai is doin' it... No Question!!! But, I have issues withthe transmission and suspension performance thus far. The Z only needs Koni/swift alignent and sways and it's a whole other animal. Linkage replacements improve the Z but it's not dire... as with the gencoupe, it's dire. The automatic options aren't quite as sporting as the 7AT. The "Originators" of sub-premium brand "DRM transmissions make the argment a win for Nissan. Though 300ms shifts are now slow compared to todays 100ms shifts. Hyundai is at about .500ms currently. Though hyundais shifts are a little smoother, they are slower... Me, I like the course shifting paddles. You're in sport mode, the car should be torquey and jerky. Don't like the jerkiness? Keep the muthafka in D till auto has reached third gear, then swiitch over. .

I think it'll happen... In very limited number, but it will happen. The 5.0 Tau, needs a sportier, more fuel efficient, lighter alternative. It's the best way to fit Tau power in a small coupe. But I see that car being around $60k

Which brings me the $60k Z rumor. If that's any true??? It will be pushing close to 500hp and will be out to compete against this Hyundai for that cash level. The future in M4 alternatives is how I see it for max price of $60k instead of starting at 65K.

Maybe you're right. I'd kill for a serious Z35 competitor at 75% the cost. I don't know how much credence is given to this but maybe 18 months ago I was reading a car and driver or road and track, etc, forgot which one but it had a big graph of "probability" in terms of what might to expect from manufactorers, one topic was "cars under $45k to do 0 to 60 in less than 4 seconds." Porsche was like 7%, Subaru was like 25% and Hyundai was on there at 30%. Maybe they know something we don't? Lol

Hyundai's pricing structure has been nearing Nissan's this past generation. I wouldn't expect a 25% cheaper Z competitor in a gencar. More like 25% cheaper than infiniti and 10% cheaper than Nissan Z

2017 Hyundai Genesis Coupe | Specs, News, Rumors | Digital Trends
this may make me jealous if Nissan doesn't do anything exciting with the next gen Z. If its true

triso07 10-12-2015 11:41 AM

Big difference between the picture in this thread and the link above. That concept looks like a luxury GT coupe with it's aesthetics falling just short.

Jepawa 10-12-2015 12:25 PM

Yes agreed... But seems that they are doing what Nissan won't by putting a TT motor in a coupe.
