Was it tuned for the intake and exhaust? Also, why was the timing belt done? Your mileage doesn't require it for a long time.

not to be a nag, but that timing belt question seems to be some kind of auto robot question everyone sees everyone else asking, therefore they deem it a necessary question. Ive had 3, an RS, WRX, and an STI and its not the issue everyone makes it out to be. they dont ALWAYS fail, and dont ALWAYS need replaced the moment the car hits "X" millage. but they do always leak oil :P

lil high bro, mine was an 02, about 10k more miles and just as good of condition. mods dont add value, usually they deduct. tasteful or not, especially engine mods. asked 14 for it and it was still a hard sell. reason? why would i pay 23 for a 10 year old modified STI when i can get a brand new WRX with a waranty with more HP for 27. love the car though, would love to have another sitting in my driveway. just sayin, dont get mad, im just speaking through experience from sellin a couple of them. lucky for you though, its MEGA hyped and popular so there are plenty of idiots out there willing to pay out the *** for their dream fast and the furious car.

According to his post, the timing belt was changed around 15k miles. That's a legitimate question.

chii370 06-04-2013 01:05 PM

lol naa, im sure it was. im just saying it becomes a topic of discussion in every "subaru for sale" ever on the internet.

On any vehicle with a timing belt and an interference motor, it's an important thing to determine. It struck me as odd that the OPs car had the belt replaced at 15k miles, when the manual either calls for it at 90k or 105k. It's been a while since I sold my last Subie, so I'm not exactly sure on the interval. Either way, it's a hell of a lot more than 15k.

chii370 06-05-2013 08:45 AM

very good point, i actually did not even notice he had mentioned it was replaced at 15k. all 3 of mine i didnt replace till an average of about 120k miles......15....hmmmm . if i had to give an educated guess...... it was beat. never met a STI owner that WASNT hard on the car until it broke for the first time, then treated it like a newborn baby.

Chuck33079 06-05-2013 08:50 AM

The mileage was what threw me off. The parts are a little "budget", and he doesn't mention a tune either. Red flags all over the place.

I drove mine hard, modded it, maintained the hell out of it, and never had so much as a single CEL. I sold it and the new owner blew it up in three weeks. They're built really well, but incredibly sensitive to poor maintenance or bad modding. Issues are usually user error.

yeah, almost bought a used 12 STI. dealership tried to tell me the thing was alright. come to find out the trans and engine had been REPLACED. when i got there i drove it, and during the test drive every light on the dash lit up, and nothing electronic worked, radio, cruise control, center dif controls.... NOTHING. so i looked under the hood and BAM it was modded to **** and back so i just walked away. i feel bad for the poor sucker that bought that damn thing. it was all kinds of ****** up.
