Possibly moving to SF
Hello SF'ers,
I might be relocating to SF and working downtown on Pine and Battery st. Where would you guys/gals recommend to live (apt/house) that is within a 20 mile radius and not crazy expensive and safe? I am married with no kids and two cars. Traffic doesn't really scare me after dealing with LA traffic. I appreciate any advise, information you can give! |
hahaha not crazy expensive? you have to move to Oakland, prepare to shell out $2500-3K for a <800 sq ft 1 bedroom
How is the Richmond area? My wife looked up the Oakland crime rates and that was instantly off the table. Might be able to get away with Northern Oakland. Maybe Berkley?
Some parts of Oakland are very nice, usually up in the hills or near the LGBT community. Drive by shooting is common once you are outside of it though.
Just remember it takes an average of 3 minutes per mile to travel in rush hour, so 10 miles might seem short until you realize it takes you three hours. If you can afford it, stay closer to the city. Of course if you are in the city, you probably shouldn't keep two cars. Be ready to get in the train |
Thanks for the info. I can deal with the commute time, as it already takes me 30-40min to go 9 miles from work to home. I am also thinking of the Walnut Creek area.
The other side of the golden gate is worth considering. Anything past Corte Madera or you're going to be paying a lot. San Rafael has some decent areas.
Thnx! Anyone else have any input?
The outskirts of the city - Daly City/San Bruno/South SF/areas around SFSU - will be less expensive and easier for you to accommodate having two cars.
Lake Merrit area of Oakland is nice as well |
I work in the Walnut Creek/Concord area and they have some very nice communities, but if your gonna be going to SF everyday its gonna be more than 45 mins. I live in Hayward and that takes me about 45 mins or so.
Sorry, I totally forgot I posted this here! Thank you guys for the information! Yes, I will be going to SF every day if I take the job. My hrs would be flexible, as in 7-3 or 9-5, whichever I choose. 45min isn't too bad, takes about that to go 8 miles here in LA.
