Planning a vacation - need to know the MUST drive routes

We are planning to drive up the coast to San Francisco next weekend to spend a few days. Where we go from there is up in the air. We have a total of 9 days to drive around. Should we keep going up the coast?? Head over to Lake Tahoe?

We've never been north of Point Reyes or east of the I5. Never been to Reno/Lake Tahoe either.

Suggestions?

When you're going up the coast and get to Santa Cruz, go northeast on hwy 17 then take "Skyline Blvd/Hwy 35" all the way to Hwy 92 (near San Mateo), which will bring you back to Highway 1. It's 40 miles of excellent twisties along the ridge of the mountain. It's arguably one of the best driving roads in the bay area. I've only been on it from Saratoga to San Mateo but it was phenomenal! The only traffic is usually sports cars and bikers. Its amazing.

Also, once you're north of SF, get back on 1 the ride is awesome and the views are beautiful, the only thing that sucks is the slow beach traffic around Stinson.

Definitely hit up Skyline!

Excellent suggestions. I agree that the beach traffic around Stinson sucks, esp this time of year

35 was sure an interesting ride. The first part sure was narrow!

Interesting in a good or bad way?

The first part you speak of I'm assuming was near Santa Cruz, I've never been on that section - I just saw that it connected from there to the main portion which is from Saratoga to San Mateo. That section is pure excellence!

Good trip overall?
