Help with Removal of Stock Cats
Anyone a veteran of removing the stock cats on a 370z? I need some help because I can't remove those demon bolts. I've tried for two days and failed both days. I have stripped the bolt on the passenger side and the grip-tite sockets that I have can't even loosen the bolts. I'd like to remove the stock cats without damaging them.
I'll treat you to lunch or dinner for your assistance. I'm in Elk Grove. PM me for my number if you have time and can help. Thanks. |
I'm also willing to drive to your place if you have better tools to get the job done.

^ Hey TongMan. GL with those bolts, this is one of those jobs that I prob wouldn't tackle on my own. I heard it's only about $150 for a shop to do the install. Have you tried calling around to local exhaust shops?

Thanks for the responses. I hope we could get these cats swapped this weekend.

Definately a two man job one to hold the socket in place so it doesnt strip the bolt while the other breaks it loose. High impact sockets are what you should be using standard ones will snap I know went thru two craftsman sockets. Spray the bolts the night before, And in some cases guys have simply tightened the bolts enough for the bolt to snap. Good Luck and Don't et us down!!

All the sockets I used so far had been unsuccessful. I'll go buy some Metrinch sockets as soon as I have some money for new tools.

wish i could help man. only suggestion id offer are 6 point sockets. liquid wrench and lots of patience. if you stripped it a bolt. dremel the head of the bolt off! it takes a few minutes and will save you so much headache
you can also try the heatgun method. heat up the bolts real goooooood and let it cool. heating the bolt should make the metal expand, thereby breaking any rust/bonds |
